I actually really like it, when numbers like that rhyme people are more likely to remember it.
133 873 would have the same cheesy rhyme if they could ever bother changing that one.
Not sure of the history of it but 131332 always made me think of 4BU. But then I’m originally from up that way.
Ross Stevenson struggling with the new number this morning, still often going with 96 900 693. He says he’s getting told off, but the old number still works perfectly well and will continue to so people can continue to use that number if they’re more comfortable with it.
the 13 number probably just terminates at the 03 number, anyway
Neil Mitchell still seems to be working from home, even though everyone else has been back in the studio for weeks. Surely he’s fully vaccinated by now? Or maybe he’s just staying at home indefinitely?
Pretty amusing DeeDee having issues saying the new number, made 3 mistakes saying the old one in the first segment.
There is a Royal Childrens Hospital tin on the desk for a “fine” when they say the old number.
Pretty amusing.
It was similar when they went from 9696 1278 to 96900 693 with the frequency swap and occasionally they’d still give out the old number. Old habits take a while to break.
Channel Nine’s television presenters are continuing to make their way into Nine Radio (whether it’s for the better or the worse, who knows). According to Nine Radio Syndication, ACA reporter Seb Costello will host 3AW Drive from December 27 to 31 whilst Tom Elliott is on holidays (Heidi Murphy hosting December 20 to 24, and January 3 to 14). Will be interesting to see how Seb goes hosting a radio show.

Of course they would. Why pay another person than use people internally in the company ? it is the smartest thing to do. But personally I’m not a fan of Seb. However no doubt Heidi wants a break and a very well deserved one, so makes sense.
Yeah it does make sense to use someone from within, and personally I’m not a huge fan of Seb either, but I’m sure he’ll fit in fine at AW. He is on Afternoons occasionally chatting news of the day so that helps.
Keep in mind Seb did radio long before moving across to TV. His first commercial gig was hosting breakfast on Classic Rock/Edge FM in Deni.
He then joined 3AW and was out and about most days reporting for the Neil Mitchell program. After that he moved to Triple M to read news and also weekend breakfast etc.
Every 10 minutes seems a bit excessive. Not everyone listens to radio in a car and is in need of constant traffic information.
Especially with so many people also relying on GPS for travel info now. This is just more advertising revenue, even if you don’t need extra traffic updayes you probably won’t tune out or change the station like a normal as break but prick your ears up to listen more intently.
It took the new number last night.
Nine Radio to broadcast new traffic reports every 10 minutes in Breakfast & Drive
Well, there is already traffic report every ad break (around 10 minutes) during Sportsday on 3AW between 6pm to 7pm.
Traffic every 10 would be a smart use of NTS if they bothered.
I’m not sure if this has been mentioned before but at some point over the past few months Nine started requiring logging in to use the 6PR mobile app (which I assume is the same for the other Nine stations as well).
Annoying but I figure that is easily sorted. Not so fast. Since they use 9now for logging in the app is effectively geoblocked to Australia only.
VPN made easy work of that for me but this is stupid. Thankfully the VPN is only needed for the initial one time login. After that the app works fine without it.
A dumb move on Nine’s part. Talkback radio doesn’t need to be geoblocked.
Edit: App Store reviewers are annoyed too…
i know in my case, i set google maps in the car to my destination and follow it, allowing it to re-route as needed.
i feel like every 10 is overkill and i can see this being paired back quick to every 15
