Nine Radio (Talk)

Ray has said he only has a couple of more years left in him so it wouldn’t surprise me if they went local when he retires. That could just be a ploy to get Nine to offer him more money to stay, however.

Apart from weekday mornings and nights they pretty much are local. With Bill and Spencer on weekend mornings and NRL Coverage taking up most of the weekend anyway, I’d say they’ve filled the important gaps with local content for the time being.

I could see 4BC going local at nights before that go local at Mornings.

The pace in Brisbane is a little different to Sydney at night time.

Maybe re-introduce Walter Williams to the night slot?

I think 4BC will most likely continue to broadcast The Ray Hadley Morning Show until he retires, similar to how John Laws (during his days on 2UE) was broadcast into Brisbane for at least a decade.

Maybe it’s possible that 4BC Nights might go local at some point in the future, but given that it’s a lower profile timeslot I doubt it.

Am I the only one here who remembers the brief period (think it was only a matter of months) his show was broadcast into Sydney on 2UE?

Yeah at the moment it sure is! People are out and about in Brisbane at night, and people in Sydney aren’t…

I remember when Walter was networked into Sydney. Surely that’s the first (and maybe final) time any Brisbane program gets beamed into Sydney.

Mind you, they did network WWOS during the summer period from 4BC into Sydney (with Peter Psaltis hosting).

LOL that’s true. But even during normal times, Sydneysiders would probably still want more newsy talk radio shows at night compared to Brisbane where the pace is likely to be somewhat more relaxed?

I know it’s still a few years off yet, but who are we thinking will replace Ray when the time comes?

Clinton Maynard, Mark Levy and Chris Smith would be a few contenders. Or Jim Wilson parachuted to Mornings? Bring over someone from Nine News?

Mark Levy.

The most familiar voice in the time slot after Ray that is.

Mmm not so much these days.

Mark Levy is just a Ray Hadley clone there is nothing unique about him. He should stay on the CCT.

Perfect for 2GB Mornings in the post-Hadley era, then.

Question because I’m curious: At what level of local content do folks think 4BC will decide it’s not worth shifting the entire schedule forward an hour in Spring and backward an hour in April just because NSW goes into Daylight Saving?

It was probably kinda required when the majority of content was networked, but at what point does the cost/benefit analysis mean it’s no longer worth disrupting the schedule twice a year just for a few hours each day of networked shows and instead means broadcasting those few remaining networked shows on a 1hr delay so the local shows keep the same timeslots all year?

Note: This was written with an assumption that they still change the schedule like they did a while ago, but if they don’t do this anymore then I guess this question is moot

My earlier prediction is correct.

Along with the swap to 882AM, 4BC will be adopting 6PR’s new open line number 133 882.

Bruce Eva is co-hosting Sportsday with Gerard Healy on 3AW for “the next few weeks” while Sam McClure takes a holiday.

Is anyone else having issues with the video stream of AW? Lately I’m having issues of it buffering, crashing, skipping and in some cases the audio is about 10 seconds behind the vision. I thought it was my internet but it’s fine.

As well as this I have notice that hey have installed mounted cameras on the desks. I know nightline uses them for their Vodcast, but would be good if the stream on 3AW used them instead of the current auto ones which are 4:3 and horrible quality when you compare it to 2GB.

Yes I’ve had some trouble with the stream continuing to stop and start, and I couldn’t get the normal audio to play on the website through my laptop today.

Does anyone else find the content on 3AW Afternoons a bit out of place and disrupting the flow of the program?

Each day at 1pm (except Friday for Friday Lunch), a media personality, usually a journalist or commentator, joins Dee Dee for half an hour to discuss the news of the day.

I’d probably prefer they discussed the news of the day in the first hour coming straight in from the hard hitting Mornings program, then from 1pm-3pm they can have more relaxed content.

Feels a bit out of place inserting it in at 1pm when you’ve just had a more laid back first hour of the show.

Owing to Daylight savings about to kick in, 4BC will be introducing a couple of programming stopgaps from Sunday.

Sunday 5am to 6am and Monday 4.30am to 5.30am: Best of Spencer Howson.
Tuesday - Saturdays 4.30am - 5.30am: Best of Neil Breen.

It looks like Wide World of Sports and Money News will continue to air at their respective times of 6 and 7pm, meaning 4BC will join John Stanley evenings show 1 hour into the live broadcast, with Australia Overnight starting at 11pm. The same will occur for the Saturday and Sunday night shows.

The existing Life and Technology and House of Wellness hours on Saturday and Sunday morning look be coming in on an hour delay, between the existing local programming block.

According to Nine Syndication, it looks like The Two Murrays will return next weekend following the end of the NRL season, running 2pm - 7pm on both Saturday and Sundays (an hour earlier in QLD).

It’s definitely changed since DeeDee took over. I’ve said in the past I like her as a presenter I just don’t like the editorial and tone of the show sometimes. She does it off the top of the show or will put about 6 questions to the audience which I find a bit awkward and too much.

When Elise was filling in the way in which she delivered the content was still news like, but it was a bit more enjoyable and relaxed? I feel Dee Dee is trying to get as many headlines and opinions in before each ad break and a bit dismissive of callers at times.

When she has weekly guests on too I find she buffers a lot between callers, which in contrast to when Elise was on she managed to try to get through as many callers as she could and appears to have a more natural conversation with the guests too.

The station has enough hard hitting and shock jock editorial at both ends of the day. Afternoons is supposed to be more enjoyable.

Just my opinion. But I really enjoyed Elise and wanted her on for another week.
