After an ok start to the year the 6PR ratings have tanked.

Gareth is a good host but he was much better where he was before. They tried to make Breakfast serious and no one wants that.

They should have kept Millsy on Breakfast after Basil left. He could have easily held that show on his own. Now he’s suffering on Afternoons because the lead-ins are dragging him down.

This is exactly what I expected when 6PR announced these changes last year. It was never going to work.

6PR should know Perth people hate change. But it’s not too late to admit they screwed up and revert the changes. They had a winning format last year. Go back to that. Even without Basil they would have been fine with things how they were.

Thanks @JohnsonTV, curious about the claim in the linked Mumbrella article:

The overall story is “a really good story for us”, according to Byrnes, as he says that being the number one network for above 35s is something that “I think probably surprised some of our commentators”

So Byrnes is saying on a market for market basis (four metros excl Adel), when you sort by demos in the survey software; Nine Radio is #1 for audiences 35+ ?

Really?

I am surprised of this as their 40 - 54 share is dismal, save for Melb. So how can they be #1 over 35?

I noticed the other day in an Uber I got in, they had 3aw on and the “beeps” played in the lead up to the news. I use the site to stream it and other streaming methods. Have the beeps been reinstated on radio or were they never removed and just don’t play on the stream?

Would be interested to hear what others have noticed

Yep I’m fairly sure AW still play pips at the toth on AM but not dab+ or streaming as they’re a few seconds behind.

I get the beeps when I’m in a car just before the news, but I can hear that little jingle they play very quietly underneath it.

When I’m listening via the app or website, I only get the jingle.

Ok that makes sense. Due to the delay must be why they don’t do the beeps on DAB or streaming

2GB certainly used to have TOTH pips on both AM and DAB+ (online streaming too I’d imagine), but I’m not sure if they do on any platform these days.

2GB still have them at least on the online stream.

Nine in need of more staff at 4BC:

The question is; 4BC have three main program production teams: bfast, drive & weekends. Psaltis does his sport hour on a shoestring and weekend bfast and Spencer’s 9am - 1pm has the one producer. Hadley’s show had/has a Qld producer, the most recent one moved to EP bfast after Karryn Wheelans did her year.

So surely 4BC is developing enough production talent to on their permanent and casual roster to promote from within? Or even within the Nine family from TV at Mt Coot-tha.

To advertise for an EP implies to me that perhaps they’re not offering enough to lure the right applicant that they’d like and instead advertising for who may be interested/looking for a step up?

Here are the job ads as text if the webpages are removed/expire:

The Weekend Break with Peter ‘Grubby’ Stubbs returns to 3AW this weekend, airing from 2:00pm-6:00pm tomorrow, and 12:00pm-5:00pm on Sunday.

Grubby mentioned this afternoon, chatting to Dee Dee on the Friday Lunch segment on Afternoons, that some of his segments and guests this weekend include, tomorrow, his brother Richard Stubbs, 3AW’s own Richard Stansbury, journalist Luke Dennehy, segment ‘What’s for Dinner?’, and on Sunday, John Origlasso and Billy Pinnell.

You know how it is Cranky. Pay people great and they’ll stay forever. Pay them something insulting and they’ll probably take it and leave at the first opportunity they’ve given.

What I don’t understand is 4BC advertised a Producer Expressions of Interest a few months ago. Surely there were stand out candidates from that pool. Methinks they already know who they want and they’re advertising because Nine told them to.

Digital streaming numbers surge for Nine Radio

Live streaming data for Nine Radio’s talk stations show the network achieved nearly 12 million streams in August as more Australians turned to Talk Radio.

According to the Triton Webcast figures released by Nine today, the talk radio network recorded 11.77 million streams, up 5% on July, while the total cumulative audience increased 15% to 1.9 million listeners.

As COVID lockdowns continue in NSW and Victoria, listeners are turning to Nine’s trusted talk radio stations for the latest and most reliable news, information and opinion.

Nine Radio’s Head of Digital Audio Hayley Bourne said: “2GB maintained its record audience numbers as the lockdown extended into August, while 3AW’s streaming jumped 12% and listeners spiked by 17% as Melbourne went into lockdown. It was pleasing to see similar increases for 4BC, while the introduction of mandatory log-ins had minimal impact on 6PR.”

“As Nine Radio deploys it’s digital audio strategy this listener data will be crucial to providing a premium user experience around content and commercialisation.”

“August also saw Nine Radio exit the TuneIn platform, and upgrade Apps for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, in line with our strategy to control our distribution and be available on every device.”

3AW management have allowed fully vaccinated presenters to return to the studio to present their programs, as they have been working from home for the last month. From watching the live stream, I know that Dee Dee and Tom are back, however Neil is still working from home.

I assume this is also the case at 2GB, 4BC and 6PR.

Yep DeeDee has been in since last week.

Neil only got his second one yesterday or Tuesday I believe.

It seems only Ray Hadley is working from home on 2GB and he has no intention of returning to the studio this year.
