Nine Radio (Talk)

Heard John Stanley this morning mention they would soon be heard “nationally”.

Maybe the show will air live on this lifestyle radio format that i believe will replace NTS Digital.

NTS is a waste of space.

I completely agree. The last I listened to it, basically a bunch of podcasts from various MRN talkback shows on a loop with a Station ID (yes, the same one every time), ads and the odd news update mixed in.

Lifestyle Radio will eventually be broadcasting in all MRN markets in some form IMO. I’m also willing to predict that there’ll most likely be an AM outlet for this in Brisbane and Melbourne (think the current Magic 882/1278 frequencies, presuming that those stations don’t get sold off along with 2CH of course) as well as DAB+ although I really hope to be proven wrong…

Agree.

It’s just a very dumb version of RN.

With the ‘Lifestyle Radio’ a show like ‘The Tech Guy’ that airs on KFI would be good.

That’s NTS now.

Radio 2UE confirms plan to replace News Talk with lifestyle and branded content

Sad news from RadioToday that voiceover Ken Sparkes has passed away. Mainly known for his work with the Nine Network, but also did an amazing job as voice of 2UE for many years.

It was the start of the stations demise when Stan Zemanek and Sparkes left 2UE at the same time.

Sparkes’ Laws promos were some of the greatest ever.

Fairfax reports that Crocmedia will take over production of 3AW’s Sports Today as part of the new six-year AFL radio rights deal announced today. It will be interesting to see if there will be new hosts and new format as the result. I listen to the show every day as I drive home and reckon Gerard Healy and Dwayne Russell do a good job.

From the Fairfax story: “extending the AFL coverage into Sydney and Brisbane through the Macquarie and Southern Cross networks”.

AFL definitely will not be on 2GB as they have the NRL, so could it be on 2UE or on what is now NTS?

As @JohnsonTV referred to in the Magic thread, according to the AFL press release (sorry about linking to a Reddit thread, couldn’t find the press release elsewhere):

Interesting. I guess triple m don’t broadcast NRL on Sat night. Will it really rate in Sydney or Brisbane? Or is it more the AFL being smart and investing money. All games of free to air and getting more radio coverage. Something the NRL should consider.

Slightly off topic who do you think is going to buy 2ch? It obvious it won’t be solved as a package now (with the other magic networks).

I heard John and Gary announce this morning that 2UE Talking Lifestyle is launching tomorrow.

I suppose that’s not too bad.

Just drop “News Talk” & add softer jingles.

It’s also playing it safe keeping the name 2UE to avoid completely killing the brand (in case they ever choose to revive it some day).

Typical 2UE style to do a launch on a Saturday, where they have the most listeners.

And this’ll be your new 2UE logo as I revealed some months ago.

Website has been updated to reflect 2UE’s re-launch. Here’s the new logo which is different to the one that was previously leaked (screenshot from the website banner):

The social media pages have also changed over!

2UE’s Twitter handle was previously @NewsTalk2UE, now it’s @2uelifestyle. Facebook was previously @Newstalk2UE, now it’s @talkinglivestyleaus.

UPDATE: The On-Air branding made it’s debut after the midnight news with the Weather sting into Australia Overnight.

And no more 13 13 32 for Sydney.

They will be going national maybe just NTS for now? What about the live cricket? Maybe that’s lifestyle too ? :grinning: I think there is a good chance magic might change.

I don’t mind the new branding.

They might need to fix images on the website as they are coming up blurry.
