Nine Radio (Talk)

Perhaps they thought if they didn’t do something about it, Nine would probably do the same thing and force him off Seven News.

Such a shame this kind of petty form is still so prevalent in Australian media.

I definitely think Nine would’ve told Basil “it’s either us or them” if Seven didn’t first, because NEC would likely want their major personalities to be on-board “team Nine” across all platforms.

One would imagine that any other personalities who are currently on Nine Radio but Seven TV will have to make similar choices come contract renegotiation time.

Would the same apply to Chris Smith who works for Foxtel?

Jane wasn’t pulled off by Seven. Nine didn’t allow them to renew the contract to have her spot on there. Seven would pay for that spot on the breakfast show.

I thought the weirdest part of that article is when Peter Ford was referred to as a entertainment “reporter”.

Using that rationale, 3AW’s AFL commentary team will be decimated, as Tim Lane, Matthew Richardson, Leigh Matthews and Jimmy Bartel also work for Seven.

That’s a shame but once Nine took over I always expected this to happen. I am surprised he was allowed to stay this long.

Basil gets a lot of hate but he and Millsy are a great team. I listen to them every day. It’s a great way for me to keep up with what is happening at home and the two of them compliment each other very well.

I was hoping if he didn’t become Lord Mayor that he would be allowed to stay on but obviously it wasn’t meant to be.

Disappointed this has happened. Steve and Baz are a good combination on 6PR. Ratings have proven that.

Given some media organisations are consolidating, this sort of situation is set to increase with various mediums coming under common ownership. Very petty indeed.

John Burgess was able to host Wheel Of Fortune on the Seven Network and breakfast on Kerry Packer’s 6PM for years.

I’m sure his first preference in regards to radio would’ve been to stay with Millsy on 6PR, but now he doesn’t have a choice but to move to Mix FM, which I’m sure he doesn’t mind too but would rather be on 6PR.

If he does get elected, he should probably drop the radio gig together. How does he manage Seven News, the Olympics, Perth Telethon, breakfast radio and the Lord Mayor Gig all in the next year or so?

I will miss him with Millsy on 6PR, they’re an awesome duo. Hopefully he will stay on until the end of November, they may just put him on gardening leave for all we know.

Move him to 6GT and rebrand it as 6BZ…he seems to be full of himself, he could pull it off.

Does Peter Ford appear on 3AW every day like he does for 6PR?

And what time does Peter come onto 3AW?

Just wondering, might tune in.

2GB is dead air in Sydney. Ben Fordham mentioned something about having to reboot “a module” to enable Ray to go to air. They were meant to go off air for 60-90 secs. Seems more like 3 mins now.

I wonder how all that Lawo gear is working out for them.

EDIT: Back on air after about 4-5 minutes.

Basil’s on air-statement on radio this morning about his departure.

Does that mean they have no back up “tape” at the transmitter? That’s supposed to kick in after a pre-determined time of audio fail.

Phones have gone down for 3aw. Neil is broadcasting via a internet connection back to the studio.

They aren’t sure if it’s a wider thing or their phone network

Kate Stevenson filled in for Ross Stevenson on 3AW breakfast today as the latter’s croaky voice had not improved, and he decided to get tested for COVID-19.
