Nine Radio (Talk)

Yes so it is about the personality and give them a creative licence. Now maybe Brian got exposure at Triple M which meant he could bring listeners to 4BC. I believe today 2GB (with exception of Ray) may mostly dictate how the show is structured rather than the personality themselves. And for some people in life that works.

However people with creative flair may need to sell their idea to management. It was not always easy. That is why the late Stan I think always said he fighted with management because he wanted to run his show his way.

I could be wrong but I think John Stanley for at least 70% of the evening show is determined by others. As it didn’t change much from Steven Price. But I think Luke Bona’s show content is mostly his work of planning the topics of discussions This is my impression. I could be wrong as I am just a listener and hey GB ratings are great at night. Why risk that? And I am sure John still needs to prepare a lot, I don’t want to underestimate that. He isn’t just there reading a script.

Jim Wilson is an experienced broadcaster, he’s adapting better by each passing week. Far better curve of improvement than the excruciating listen that is drive on 4BC.

I feel sorry for Scott Emerson, his presentation sounds a real struggle. I wonder how he feels by the end of his shift? In denial and thinks he’s done well, knows he could do so much better so he’s kicking himself or in a total mess wondering when it’ll get better?

Joe Hildebrand is also joining 3AW afternoons from today. Perhaps the right time too with the program on top in the afternoon timeslot in the latest radio ratings survey.

The Herald Sun reports that 3AW host Neil Mitchell is battling a respiratory issue which probably explains why he sometimes leaves early.

Mitchell, who hosts 3AW’s ratings winning Morning shift, has been undergoing tests over recent months to get to the bottom of why his voice has become at times raspy, weakened or husky.

Having recorded his best ratings in 23 years at AW with last week’s ratings survey, Mitchell revealed he had been diagnosed with adult asthma and had undergone speech therapy.

“I have developed asthma, which is not unusual in my family, everybody seems to do it when they get to my age,” Mitchell said.

“We have been fiddling with medications, inhalers that you can take without affecting your voice. I am still fiddling with them. I have got it just about right.

“The other thing is I have been to a speech therapist and I have been to an ear nose and throat bloke who stuck cameras down my throat. There is no drama, but I have all these voice exercises which I should do and because of what has been going on, and working from home and everything, I have not been doing them often enough.

Caught 2GB’s cross media relationship disclaimer as a lead into the 11am news - how specific do they have to be? Do they need to mention specific stations e.g. “2GB is part of the Nine corporate group, which includes TCN Sydney and the Sydney Morning Herald” or does a general overview like they do now count?

Alicia Loxley is filling in for Dee Dee Dunleavy on 3AW afternoons this week.

Similar mention here in Melbourne with 3AW, although I wonder why it does not call its parent company Nine Entertainment by name. Nine corporate group sounds a bit generic.

Its because the actual company is “Nine” and no longer Nine Entertainment Co.
You will notice they dropped the Entertainment Co on their logo a number of years back as well as on all of the online presence. Oddly enough its only listed as that on the ASX.

They don’t mention callsigns, just “Nine’s television stations and Nine’s newspapers”, but name check the Herald.
