11am News block on 3AW today. Structure is following:
(note I have cut out majority of the news and sport section to save time)
:13 secs - Break Stinger
:23 secs - 30 commercial into news
:53 secs - Another 5 second commercial (show or product) over leader into News
:58 secs - Nine News theme intro (Which appears to still be low in quality since it’s introduction - compared to the rest of the bulletin. Very bassy and not as clear)
1:26 - Sport Intro (with show promo / commercial)
1:45 - Nine Network Promo (ACA)
1:53 - Traffic intro (30 second segment)
2:23 - Commercial (30 secs)
2:53 - Weather Intro (commercial/show promo over intro)
2:59 - Weather
3:21 - Another 15sec commercial
3:35 - 3aw App 15sec Promo
3:50 - Program Sting
3:56 - Show content
Also below is the 4pm block with a Traffic update in the 3pm block of the show at the start.
The afternoon Traffic Reporter is heaps better with his pacing and conveying the information.
I intentionally jumped around the dial a bit this morning and found the in house and ATN reports almost “word for word” identical. The traffic light problem in Crows Nest for example was fixed up well before the reports of a problem stopped. Makes me wonder just who is kidding who. Must admit did not listen to the ABC so still wondering if the Wallace Brothers are still around.
Nine Radio announced over the weekend that it would be returning to regular programming on 3AW, with all shows currently on leave returning and all future leave plans temporarily suspended.
Ok, so maybe it’s just me because I’m used to traffic reports on Brisbane/Sydney stations like 97.3 FM & 4BH & 2UE, but how the traffic reports on all those 3AW recordings just abruptly finishes is kinda jarring. I’m used to the traffic report at least saying something like “and that’s the latest traffic” and normally mention the station name. 2UE today had the new non ATN traffic reports and they still gave the reports an outro and mentioned the station name. I can only assume it’s because 3AW is getting their feeds directly from the Department of Transport that they can’t get a smoother outro?
I agree. When they had the ATN reports they would always sign off with “and that’s 3AW traffic” so they used to do it but does appear they aren’t from the department ones. Wonder if they are running exactly at the same time on Magic 1278 and that’s why?
I miss the days when the news department was an integral part of a talk station and would work hand in glove with the presenters to deliver information. I guess now that 2GB is more opinion than talk and news is more easily accessible by other means, it doesn’t really matter where the newsroom is situated.
They could at least say “and that’s the latest from the VicRoads Control Centre” or something similar.
Some things such as sales moved in with Nine, but most is still at Media House.
The cost of building and fitting out studios is an obvious deterrent to move the radio stations, but there’s also a lot of people to fit within an existing space.
The Age and AFR moved from Media House to 717 Bourke Street last year, but still controls the billboard facing onto Spencer Street. Along with 3AW it’s mostly home to NBNCo now.
For.some reason I thought the AW newsroom was one of the first things to move from Media House.
