Caroline is still at ATN, so that’s a no.
Not surprised, quite a few ex-ATN staffers ended up in the Transport in some form or another so there’ll be a few familiar voices popping up across AW and Magic.

That’s interesting. Because she was doing traffic well before ATN was involved with AW though?
In Brisbane - former ATN reporter and 4BC drive producer Olympia Kwitowski is overseeing the “traffic division” - and will be providing the weekday morning reports on 4BC and 4BH.
This is confirmed by the man himself today
Not a fan of this new News structure on AW. I get why Nine are doing it as it allows them to monetise the news block more and charge a premium. But the flow of it is all disjointed now.
The great thing about the last structure was there was a build up for the news, now it’s an ad and then it just slams into the news.
There is a short “show promo” before it, but if I was them I would bring back the build up theme and use the tail end of it under that promo to maintain that.
A lot of shows will struggle with working with it I believe. Especially Neil.

In comparison to the old format:
(notice the build into the news to grab your attention)
Oh - I’d been thinking of Craig Emerson the whole time thinking that’d be a surprising choice for 4BC…
So no Whyalla wipeout there on my radio, then

Thanks for letting me know!
‘A lot’ is an understatement - pretty much all the presenters are going to struggle considering they generally go right up to the TOTH/BOTH (during breakfast). Having to stop 45 secs beforehand to fit in a ad & promo is going to disrupt the flow of shows completely
Agreed! All will struggle. Neil even throughout his show frequently cuts off and fades out the return from break stings in a normal situation! So I feel tomorrow will be interesting.
Also it’s going to impact the afternoon show considerably because a lot of the weekly segments are already short of time, now a further :45 less of content. The listener misses out in my opinion.
The Australian reports that Ray Hadley is broadcasting 2GB/4BC mornings from a brand new set inside Nine’s Gold Coast studios on Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise, a stone’s throw from his apartment on Main Beach, for two weeks from today, with plans to broadcast one week a month from the Gold Coast from now on.
Are Ben Fordham and Neil Breen aware of his plans?
Oops, mixed up the shows Ben and Ray are hosting.
Former GB bfast host Alan Jones is quoted in his latest radio ad going to air on his former network, “the public is starved of an objective and balanced view of what’s going on”.
It’s an opinion based show and he’s entitled to his opinion, it does have crossover potential for comedy it seems with descriptions of objectivity and balance.
Brisbane radio is set for a further shake-up with journalist and former MP Scott Emerson to host 4BC’s new local Drive program.
Emerson is a highly experienced broadcaster and journalist who served as The Australian newspaper’s Queensland bureau chief and held senior journalism positions with the ABC. He has also served in the Queensland parliament and is a former Minister for Transport and Main Roads.
The Scott Emerson Drive Show will launch on 4BC on August 10.“We’re delighted Scott is joining 4BC as we return to local programming in drive,” said Greg Byrnes Nine Radio’s Head of Content.
“As a journalist, broadcaster and former Minister he’s well credentialed for news talk, particularly with a state election in October, but Scott is also a proud Queenslander who lives and breathes Brisbane.”
Earlier this year, 4BC announced plans to expand local content in Brisbane, appointing respected editor/journalist Neil Breen as the station’s new Breakfast host. With COVID restrictions now easing, popular 2GB/4BC Mornings host Ray Hadley is returning to the Gold Coast from where he’ll regularly present his top-rating networked program.
“This is an exciting time to join 4BC as it goes even more local,” said Emerson. “I can’t wait to get back behind the microphone and talk about all the issues that really matter to Brisbane. We’ll be breaking news and debating the big stories of the day – local politics, local business, local sport – and hopefully having a laugh or two. If you listen to 4BC Drive, you’ll have the edge in Brisbane.”
Emerson began his career as a cadet journalist with ABC News. He went on to help launch Triple J radio in Queensland before taking on senior reporting and presenting roles with the AM, PM and World Today programs.
He later joined News Corp as The Australian’s Queensland bureau chief and State political editor. More recently Emerson has been a regular Queensland contributor on Sky News.
He holds degrees in economics and the arts from the University of Queensland and is a Churchill Fellow, for undertaking research at Harvard and in Washington into political campaigning and communication.
Emerson has been married to his wife Robyn since 1991 after they met as students at the University of Queensland. They have two adult children.
Yeah I had a chuckle when I heard it as well. The self delusion is strong in that one!
Nine Radio traffic reports:
First weekday of their in house reports and what are the thoughts of us Mediaspy members? Regular and not so regular contributors welcome.
Heading out for a run, I heard the 0530 report.
Nothing different in content save for a clearer sound as it’s from their broadcast chain and not external.
Will listen later in drive when conditions are busier, quiet at that time of the morning with school hols.
3AWs clarity for Traffic reports is the same from what I can tell. They were pretty good before.
The person doing the early afternoon/morning shift was speaking so slow though, it was uncomfortable to listen too. I’ve managed to record some of today and this afternoon and will post later on.
Personally I’m not a fan of the new Traffic and Weather ID’s. The traffic one sounds like some cartoon “undercover” agent production track And the fact it runs under the report is distracting.
The previous one was more immediate and got your attention.
Basil Zempilas has announced he is running for the position of Lord Mayor for the City of Perth. Mark Gibson has also announced he is running.
If Zempilas is elected, he will almost certainly leave 6PR but keep his TV commitments.
Who would replace him? I reckon Tim McMillan would be good. Carmen Braidwood or Michael Genovese are some other contenders.
