There are no ads between the 8.30am news and traffic, and no ads between the weather and start of the Neil Mitchell program.
The traffic reports on 2UE are light on ads. For example, the 6:20pm traffic tonight in-between two songs had no commercials. Dennis Lee, who has been doing traffic on 2UE for many years, did the report.
I think some stations apply their own themes over the top. IIRC, itâs a holdover from 2UE when they did it, but it didnât go to air in the Sydney market.
3AW 693AM is atrocious in Geelong these days, at night it constantly has music seeping over from another station. How can they let their signal be so poor? Itâs patchy in Western Melbourne a lot of the time too.
The transmitter is in Werribee AFAIK. It should be strongest in those areas. Not a good sign if it isnât
It always has been. Thereâs a null in the radiation pattern towards Geelong. You get âout of phaseâ effects driving around Geelong as well as a result.
Is there a way to fix that?
Pretty sure itâs deliberate. The station is not licensed for coverage in Geelong. Same with 3CR on 855 AM which has it written into its licence conditions. And most Melbourne FM stations have a null on 240-250 degrees from Mt Dandenong. Which is towards Geelong.
New (or at least one I hadnât seen before) TV commercial for Ben Fordhamâs 2GB breakfast show aired during Nine News Sydney tonight:
While Iâm not complaining about seeing an ad on our screens for 2GB since itâs much rarer to see them take out television advertising time (well itâs probably free or cheap on Nine, but stillâŚ) compared to Sydneyâs FM radio stations, surely I canât be the only one who thinks it wouldâve been better for Nine Radio to advertise their music stations on TV during a strategic timeslot such as the 6pm news? Because if weâre being realistic, itâs likely that a fairly significant proportion of Nine News Sydney viewers are already 2GB listeners. 2UE on the other hand, needs external promotion especially with 2CH likely to become a sports station in the future.
2GBâs 70yo+ audience will only get them so far - they need younger listeners to the flagship, not an also-ran station.
Itâs as if theyâve done it to inform the public that Jones is no longer there.
Seems there is a new intro from the News back into Neil Mitchel. Now includes a mention of âacross Victoria â
Heidi Murphy had to step in for Neil Mitchell during the 8.30am half hour due to problems associated with his home studio. I really hope she is considered for his spot when it comes time for Neil to retire. The show didnât miss a beat and Neil was back on air after 9am.
Sheâs wonderful. Sheâs been great when sheâs filled in for Tom on Drive too. Iâd much rather her on then Tom.
Neil is awful these days, just sounds like an old bloke moaning all the time. Itâd be great to have someone fresh like Heidi in that time slot.
Tom has always been awful, always sounds disinterested in his callers only enjoys hearing his own voice.
Tom is pretty awful I agree. Doesnât really care for his callers
I remember calling in one time to talk to Tom on drive last year. I was in the queue for 1hr 15mins. The operator kept apologising but it was because kept taking and wasnât taking as many calls. He loves to talk and ramble on about his own thoughts and stories. If you try to give him a bit of information, he tries to input with a smart comment or knowledge that generally misses the mark. Its getting worse. I think one arvo I counted a total of 12 calls in an hour.
I notice someone gets about 10 seconds then Tom takes over and you never hear the caller again. Itâs not talk back, its a short comment then Tom blazes over the caller and moves on. Rubbish.
Agreed!
Not only are telephone woes limited to community radio.
Try telephoning 4BC or 4BH to their Cannon Hill switch/reception.
You will encounter one ringing tone before being diverted to a engaged tone.
Sydney number is no wiser on the problem nor on how to switch callers through.
If youâre a direct client and are considering advertising, itâs not a good look to have a number in use for sixteen years to not work.
