Nine Radio (Talk)

They won’t be on 6am-9am weekends on 2GB while the Garden Clinic is there making money.

move that to 2ue

I know they won’t (for obvious reasons), but MRN really should just sell off 2UE.

Three points:

  • They are still not reporting this on Radio Today. It’s more like Radio Last Week on that website
  • What a pity that a city of 5 million could not support 3 talk stations (702, 2GB and 2UE). I don’t count 2SM as the station is pointless; it is just noise without a purpose.
  • I reckon that it may be 702 that will gain from this change. How funny would it be if 2UE’s demise actually moved 702 into first place?

On a personal note I am going to miss getting to work with John and Garry.

They concentrate on FM, mostly SCA.

Maybe they’ll keep John and Garry at Breakfast and lifestyle infomercials all day while you work. Then maybe a decent-ish drive show and music overnight?

I agree it’ll be a shame to lose John, Garry, George and Paul. A move to 2SM would really kill 2UE right now.

I love catching the 339 to work and listening to “the whisper” after 7am. I hope John and Garry stay on 954. I do love them.

Moving to 2SM is a career killer for anyone in radio. 1269 is a radio graveyard.

Norman must love 2SM.

Probably because there’s been no announcement made other than something rather vague many months ago. Radio Today (despite what you may think about it’s quality these days) deals in news rather than speculation.

Not necessarily. They may, but a domain registration is hardly confirmation that they will change their name.

I’m wondering if Lifestyle Radio could end up being a DAB+ station in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, with it being on AM and DAB+ in Sydney. (Under this thought the Sydney station could be either “Lifestyle Radio 954” or “2UE - Lifestyle Radio” or some variation). If they’re going to the effort of launching a whole new product it would make sense to make it available wherever they can to maximise revenue, and they’re not lacking DAB+ bandwidth to work with.

Perhaps “2UE Lifestyle Radio” (or whatever they’re calling it) could provide content to a relaunched NTS? Aside from the cricket during Summer, that digital station could certainly use a bit more unique content!

Yes, NTS is a waste. At least it is used for the NRL Cantankerous Call in Melbourne, (I understand).

Webguy - I have to wholeheartedly yet respectfully disagree with you. It is news that Macquarie Media have registered the domain name lifestyleradio.com.au. It is not speculation it is news. Especially as word is that 2UE is moving to a new format. It is possible evidence of a new format.

But speculation can also be news. When a plane goes missing mid-flight I expect it to be reported as news. Not kept secret as we are only speculating about what’s happened. Before Abbot was rolled we knew what was happening because of speculation in Canberra.

Radio Today has probably not reported on this story as they are too busy listening to smooth fm in case someone guesses the secret sound. Headline: “Byron Gives Away $30 600 To Amy from Penrith in the Secret Sound.”

Rather than the headline: “Macquarie May Be Moving To New Format for 2UE”

So in that case should they write an article everytime a radio network registers a domain name?

Also, this is only available because someone has been searching possible registered domain names. It’s not like there is a public ally available register of domain names owned by a company and I’m sure they have better things than to search a bunch of domain names every day to see if one magically gets registered.

A quick search of the IP Australia website also reveals that Macquarie Media has registered Lifestyle Radio as a trademark.

I think it’s quite safe to say that 2UE as a brand will be no more come September.

I’m predicting it’ll be on 954AM Sydney and around the country on DAB replacing NTS. It would make sense to make it somewhat a national brand for advertisers.

I am also predicting it’ll be a massive flop and there will be a soft relaunch of the 2UE brand.

Lifestyle Radio in my opinion is simply going to be one big expensive lesson for MMN.

Management will soon realise it would’ve been more cost effective to leave 2UE as a competing talkback station, rather than have it as a useless liability.

Advertisers may flock to Lifestyle Radio, however, listeners are going to flea.

Depends what you want. I guess if you to stay as a lifestyle facilitator ,it might work. If you want to be mostly news talk the 2ue of tomorrow might not be the best. If 2sm were smart they could take advantage of the situation. Unless you find a slot on 2gb.

And the problem will be once the listeners depart and the ratings dive even further, they will find it even harder to sell advertising on the station.

The TV networks are able to sell blocks on the shopping channels that no one watches so it shouldn’t be too different.

I remember working for a company several years ago that based their radio advertising decisions purely on which network was the cheapest with no consideration given to the ratings.

Someone wrote on here before that 2UE is going to become radio’s TVSN (how about RSN?).

At least TV shopping channels have pictures. If 2UE becomes radio that is just continual ads …imagine that - just hours of ads…it will be…it will be…well, actually it will be just like the Ray Hadley Morning Show.

jeez, anytime I switch 3AW on it’s on an ad break. God knows how bad this will be, you won’t be able to tell anything apart.
