Price has told The Australian:

Money News needs to go from 6pm all together. It’s a strange slot. Who wants to listen to finance on their way home from a long days work?
Business men/women, who would probably make up a fair bit of 2GB’s right wing audience
I always thought the same thing when it first started. Then again, who wants sport at that time either?
Just put Murray Wilton at nights starting at 7pm and be done with it.
AFAIK it always rated well, so there’s your answer. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be on air.
anything on 2GB would rate well. I think it’s dire and wouldn’t appeal to a younger audience they’re trying to get.
I’d extend drive to 7pm and nights from 7 til midnight. For both 2GB and 3AW
I didnt expect Steven Price to go. I thought he was going to replace Alan one day. I also I didnt expect Chris Smith to go as well. Interesting times…
There’s been a nightly Money program on 2GB since the early 1980s, originally with Bruce Bond, then David Koch and later of course Ross Greenwood. I think it has hung around through the many ups and downs of 2GB as I assume it is profitable.
Cutting it to an hour seems reasonable.
With the PM program on the ABC only 30 minutes now (and not a dedicated business news program anyway) there is definitely a market for a Money News type program still.
I always thought the name “Money News” was a bit of a misnomer. Ross’ show had a finance bent to it in that a lot of the time he’d want to analyse what the news of the day meant for the markets, but the show was more of a news analysis show than a finance show a lot of the time. I guess “Money News with Ross Greenwood” is a snappier title than “Evening News Review with Ross Greenwood”.
Deborah Knight starts on Monday 13 January 2020.
I said last week Macquarie are currently in a mess but they’ve now become a shambles under the new Nine management. Not only have they alienated one of their long-term presenters in Ross Greenwood but they’ve essentially ‘pushed out’ Steve Price in order to clean-up the mess caused by Today’s neverending presenting merry go round.
While Price isn’t exactly my cup of tea, the way he was dumped doesn’t sit right with me.
Are they in “shambles”, or is it just that we’re finally seeing some changes to a stale lineup?
the latter. They know they have to start with generational change to bring in new audiences without hurting their top-end too much. Short term pain, long term gain. I’m more interested listening to Deborah Knight than I would be Steve Price.
The slot Knight will be in is one which had another presenter (Price) take over it a few months ago…
This move has nothing to do with ‘generational change’ - it’s Nine ensuring that Knight wouldn’t be alienated after (reportedly) being dumped from presenting the Sydney weekend bulletins
No, it’s generational change - and exactly why they are considering Livinia Nixon for the slot in Melbourne. And she isn’t being “alienated after (reportedly) being dumped”
I hope 9Radio doesn’t end up being a wash up of overloaded 9TV talent. Otherwise you may as well have Georgie Gardiner and all the other current Today presenters on GB in the New Year.
Interesting times at 2GB. A few years ago such changes would have added a sense of excitement to the radio scene in Sydney. We may have wondered if Price and Greenwood would have moved to 2UE and given 954AM some momentum in 2020.
Now that 2UE had been destroyed the market is less volatile. The end of 2UE also means that talk radio talent have less negotiating power when it comes to their employment contracts. 2GB management now have more of a “take it or leave it” approach.
It sounds weird but the loss of 2UE is now proving to be a real negative for the existing 2GB staff, including the on air talent.
That wins comment of the day.
No one listened to Price anyway, he suffred from small man syndrome.
