Nine Radio (Talk)

True but the audience loves him and the nighttime audience is probably more his audience anyway

He sounded like he is going today. Said it will most likely be the last time he will speak to Mark Latham.

To be fair, Iā€™d take any opportunity not to talk to Mark Latham

Please God no. Just because he worked on ABC Breakfast with all its rusted on listeners. Red is not a commercial station drawcard. Itā€™ll be all about me, me me.

Denis used to just phone it in on afternoons. But at least he was more relevant to the rusted on 3AW audience.

And a reminderā€¦ Stephen Beers was Operations Manager before he got the flick. Not station manager.

Darren James is more listenable

would be nice to have a female presenter in the line-up. 3AW is very blokey during the weekdays. Years ago they used to have people like Muriel Cooper, Mary Hardy and Martha Gardener in the afternoons.

RE: Georgeā€™s replacement , I did hear George say the replacement will look much better. Chris Bath maybe?

Deborah Knight has also been suggested but I still do wonder if Paul will still be required.

Paul phoning in his crime file segment is all that should be required of him.

Hereā€™s an ideaā€¦ if youā€™re going to reinstate local Nights, why not rehire Simon & Phil and save on recruitment by keeping Denis in Afternoons.

Oh wait. Too simple.

Why not call it Nightline as it has been known?

@KevinPerry, can you please ask?

Itā€™s the consistency and familiarity of 3AW that retains the audience. Including Queenie from Bayswater. I donā€™t really care what Queenie has to say, so long as when I visit Melb and are cooking a late dinner or in the car, I hear sheā€™s called in to Nightline.

Consistency desnā€™t hurt the all important 40 - 54ā€™s either for which AW is by a country mile the best rating talk station in Australia for.

Denis still lives in Geelong? Happy with a commute seeing him arrive home between 1 - 2am?

AW should run a save campaign for the bungled decisions now thankfully reversed once MRN was out of the decision making chair.

The baffling question to me @littlegezzybear is, why did Nine allow it? The acquisition was done, 90% acceptance achieved, lawyers and paperwork to finalise, is this more a bungle by Nine who shouldā€™ve realised consistency is required and all on air decisions should be frozen until the deal completes.

Sami and Jacinta proved that wrong. You need the talent and right content choice to retain the ABC audience.

Correct and Nine are fixing another mistake by MRN to cost cut and resource only operations managers instead of the proper title of station manager with the duties to match.

Who do you have in mind for the role?

Does he want the role?

3AW veteran Darren James, Livinia Nixon and Domain Group magazines editor Emily Power are said to be in the running to replace Denis Walter as afternoons host. James and Power currently co-host Weekend Breakfast. A spokesman said the new afternoons host would be announced before Christmas.

Someone on here would be happy as Nine would then have the opportunity to replace her on Nine News with a meteorologist! Thatā€™s assuming she moved on from the weather.

Livinia Nixon can present 3AW afternoons then Nine News weather, given the two studios are in the same Docklands area and separated by a 15 minute walk.
