Another axing at Macquarie, with Mark Noakes, who held the position as Head of Commercial, being made redundant.

Coincidence? I don’t think Alan Jones would have been impressed by that email.

3AW breakfast isn’t syndicated. I believe @glen2006 was only posting what was published by Macquaire Syndication.

I’ve been informed that Michael Smith has headlined that email (presuming that it’s real - obviously the bit about Steve Price/John Stanley filling in at breakfast is correct, but the rest?) as “Death-knell for 2GB” on his website.

Surely that’s a bit overdramatic? OK so the afternoon ratings with Steve Price at the helm have fallen a bit compared to what they were with Chris Smith, but 2GB still received a rather healthy 9.9% in the afternoon during Survey #7!

A bit of radio history - that was Luke Bona’s first on-air shift on 2GB.

John Burns will step down from 3AW Breakfast after the Olympics:

It will be the end of one of most successful partnerships on Melbourne (if not Australian) radio.
By the way, the Tokyo Olympics finish on August 9, not July 30 as the article says. Unless Ross and John are only covering the first week of the Games?

I wonder who is Ross’s 3rd on air partner is.

First Partner was Dean Banks and Second Partner is John Burns

Glenn Robbins, Red Symons or Stephen Quartermain surely? Or would it be his producer who did moveable feast?

My money is on Red.

Hardly going younger then

Or Simon Owens.

Sad. One of radio’s great partnerships.

Unrivalled audience share. Unlikely to be repeated for a few more decades.

Macquarie is a mess at the moment - they don’t seem to know what they want to do with their stations from month to month.

3AW axing Nightline a few months ago in favour of fully airing John Stanley’s national program only to then bring back a local nights program months later is the latest example of that

In isolation, sure, but in that time Nine have taken full control over the network and reappointed their Melbourne station manager. Reversing the axing of a local night show is a good step, no matter how confusingly it has been handled.

3AW has however today indicated the afternoon slot will not be filled by Steve Price in 2020, and that a new presenter will be announced for the timeslot in coming weeks.

Red?

Walter has signed a long term deal with AW to host Nights and said he was delighted with the new opportunity and the station’s commitment to local programming.

“There will be elements of what we are already doing on Afternoons that will travel with us, but there will be new things in the show as well,” Walter said.

“I have adored being on Afternoons, I have loved it, loved what we have achieved, and I am looking forward to the new challenge.

“The negotiations have been fantastic, the deal is fantastic, it is long-term and I am excited by what is ahead in the new year and beyond.”

Walter will sign off from Afternoons on December 20 and kick off Nights on January 20.

The problem facing Denis is that he will have a different set of listeners compared with afternoons.
