Nine Radio (Talk)

Interesting. 3AW afternoons with Dennis Walter is being joined by Price from 2GB to talk travel,
Interesting they are essentially simulcasting up the east coast.

Lasted all of 5 minutes, better than nothing I suppose but in my opinion Denis Walter is far better than Steve Price.

A case of 'if you can’t remove 'em, join ‘em together’?

Will we see the Steve & Dennis Afternoon Show in 2020?

I hope not.

Agreed. You can really tell of an audio quality difference too. Sydney’s microphones sound all muffled and compressed. 3AW sounds way superior and crisp, clear in sound.

Seems like it’s a weekly way of national integration for Luxury escapes.
Segment went for about 10-15 mins.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that a certain suggestion that involved a sock is having large repercussions at 2GB

Joe Aston in the AFR, which is owned by Nine, claims that Macquarie and Nine decided to sack Alan Jones in the aftermath of his comments about Jacinda Ardern that saw dozens of companies withdraw advertising from his program. But as happened earlier in the year apparently when Macquarie and Nine had decided not to renew Jones’ contract, Nine chairman Peter Costello intervened according to Aston with Jones not being sacked and a review of his program being announced instead.

“What’s with Peter Costello’s loyalty to Alan Jones?”

Last I checked, Peter Costello was the Federal Treasurer for a Coalition Federal Government when it was under the leadership of John Howard. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Costello being a fan of Alan Jones and other media personalities who are on the same political wavelength as he is.

Probably goes a bit beyond just ‘being a fan’ of Alan…

“Dee Dee” Dunleavy filling in for Denis Walter on 3AW afternoons today.

Solo? Noticed both her and Grubby filled in for Denis’ shift a few weeks back

Great to have her hosting solo today!
She should be the summer fill in IMO

Kinda funny how Grubby & Dee Dee have only ever managed to score fill in roles since leaving their popular Gold Breakfast show.

Surely someone can give them a decent chance.

If MML wasn’t so overloaded with talent, surely they could use them.

Even better, why couldn’t SEN+ use their talents on the weekend? (I can’t believe I even just suggested that). Maybe a light weekend afternoon talk program?

They present weekend afternoons outside of the AFL season.

Grubby and Dee Dee also present weekend afternoons in September when there are no AFL matches on.

I just think it’d be great to have female solo presenters across more programming on AW.
That’s why DeeDee on this afternoon was a great and fresh change.
Was great when Heidi Murphy (also mornings producer) filled in for Neil for a few weeks over summer at the start of the year.
Darren James is overly exposed on AW these days and he’s always driven me nuts in how he handes quite serious conversations.

The Courier Mail reports that 4BC has axed it’s last remaining Brisbane-based program. Last program will air this Friday. Full statement here.

UPDATE: Braybrook just addressed the article on-air. Says he is going on pre-planned holidays as of Friday. Says after that point he still intends to be involved in the company - covering sporting commentary roles.

MACQUARIE Media is set to end its Brisbane-produced content after reportedly axing Mark Braybrook’s weekday Drive show. Braybrook was believed to have been informed of the decision on Tuesday afternoon.

Macquarie Media has yet to officially announce the change or who will replace Braybrook although Ben Fordham currently hosts Drive on sister station 2GB. Fordham’s is expected to be on Brisbane’s airwaves immediately after the September school holidays.

That will just make 4BC a straight relay of 2GB. Won’t this in breach of licence regulations? Maybe the ACMA should investigate.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s any local content requirement rules for the metro stations as there are for regionals - one would guess because at the time they were written up, it was presumed that metro radio stations would always have some form of local programming.

I definitely think ACMA should take a look though.

Correct. As discussed here previously, the only local content regulations are for regional markets.
