Nine Radio (Talk)

Industry Super owned ME Bank probably shouldn’t have been advertising on Jones program. Industry Super advocates equality. Jones doesn’t.

Media release from chairman Macquarie Media

OK fellow Media Spies, how long do we think it’ll be until Alan Jones’ contract is terminated? Knowing that he’s got a very long track record of controversial comments, I’d be willing to predict that the papers will be torn up sometime within the next 6 months.

I hope it happens within those 6 months meaning the deal with 2SM/Sky/iHeart Radio will be back on the table.

He barely needs to make an appearance at the 2SM studios. He could do the entire show from home and simply travel for his TV appearances.

It would suit him better, it would give him freedom to speak his mind & it would FINALLY shake up the Sydney radio market (which is well overdue).

Considering the lengths Nine & Macquarie went to in order to ensure Alan Jones renewed his contract (including screwing over Chris Smith), I have a hard time believing they would actually terminate Jones’ contract if a ‘trigger event’ (for lack of a better term) arises

Just a curious hypothetical if iheartradio did sign Alan, would wsfm’s format change?

I think the iHeart deal was more to do with having 2SM (and perhaps their affiliated stations) available to stream through iHeartRadio.

Couldn’t seriously imagine WSFM changing their format to accommodate Alan Jones - very different listener bases.

Yeah unless they change the edge 96.1 format to a talk station. But the coverage of Sydney is not the best.

AIUI the rumor was a breakfast show on 2SM (possibly simulcast across the BOG AM network), more shifts at Sky News and a podcast/online deal with iHeartRadio - less about streaming the Caralis stations on iHeart although, given some of the FM stations take the syndicated iHeartRadio Countdown show, it’s not impossible.

Except at that time he wasn’t causing 2GB, and by extension Macquarie, to lose advertising revenue. It is well within the realms of possibility - although I personally don’t see it happening - that if more advertisers pull out Nine may panic and force a pay out. Short term thinking is hardly a new phenomenon in radio.

All based on speculation that Nine’s rival newspaper publisher, News Corp had stirred up. Really no idea how strong the motivations of parties beyond GB are.

Also to consider, should Jone’s contract be terminated, non-compete conditions may still apply.

Not sure this is the best way to go about defending someone. I’m sure it’s well intentioned, but not something often spoken of. Perhaps “confirmed bachelor” would be more appropriate.

Koala has been savaged based on the replies to that tweet. They’ll come crawling back to Jones and 2GB just like the rest of them.

Looking at the ratio I’d say they’ve done just fine

Fancy having the gall to complain about media watch. What planet does Alan life on? And how much longer can Macquarie entertain his brand of extremism and misogyny?

I am still flabbergasted that he has never been called to account for soliciting sex in a London public bathroom. Would his right wing listers being conservative and all condone such filth?
It goes to show the hypocrisy of these people.

Nine ran a lengthy piece in their news tonight.

Interesting that Koala Mattresses are quoted as saying “the bloke has had too many chances”

Alan’s first chance was in 1988 and he was in London. That incident also involved him wanting to shove something down someone’s throat. Coincidently, it also just happened to rhyme with sock.

As the subject of many less than positive Media Watch stories over the years, should we really be that surprised to hear about how Alan Jones has complained to the program?

He’s one of the very few people who I’d genuinely like to see become completely unemployable in the Australian media landscape. To put things into perspective, I can’t even listen to Gloria by Laura Brannigan on a non-2GB station without groaning and wanting the song turned off!

If only this was brought up more and more so people know what type of filth he is.
