2GB is packing more advertising into the Jones, Hadley, Smith, Grant, Money and Garden programs for the next three weeks. The extra ads in Hadley’s show looks like this:
It’s to my understanding that all commercial radio & TV networks are allowed to air extra advertising during Federal Election campaigns, but I’d have to check on that…
Caught a glimpse of the new 2GB studios tonight during a segment on A Current Affair during which they had Chris Smith with an ‘opinion’. It appears they have stuck with a German manufacturer for consoles and gone with Lawo Sapphire consoles. Also of German origin the Yellowtec Mika microphone arms. There was also a VoxPro control surface in the background. I don’t know what the OLED keypanel in the foreground is for or who it’s manufacturer is?
Wonder if 2ue has moved. George Moore is a bit open about the topic. In theory they will come back to the new studio on Saturday according to what he said last weekend.
That would be a safe assumption. It could possibly be a custom made job too. There’s no device matching that on the Telos, Comrex, AVT, AEQ, Broadcast Bionics or Sonifex websites.
Possibly an intercom to producer, record studio, newsroom? Just noting the little silver knob on the right of the unit. But quite possible it’s the phone box thing too
2UE’s last broadcast from the Greenwich studios will be this Sunday from 6am via Radioinfo.
According to a Facebook post by Clinton Maynard;
“I’ll have the honour of co-hosting the final program from 2UE’s Greenwich studios this Sunday. I’ll be on air with the legendary Paul B. Kidd, George [Moore] is sick. I didn’t make the call, seriously, but I’m honoured to do the last show with Paul B form what’s been a fantastic home for Australia’s oldest radio station.”
I highly doubt that sport coverage will move from the top rating 2GB anytime in the foreseeable future, certainly not the NRL while Ray Hadley is still part of The Continuous Call Team anyway…
That’s not a terrible idea actually. Means that rather than being competing stations that aren’t trying compete with each other, they stations that comportment each other. It would surely be easy to sell to advertisers as well. It would really just be like a supplementary digital station, but able to broadcast to the wider audience being on AM. It could even be broadcast into other cities on DAB+, as well a be sold as a complete station in non MRN areas the same as what they offer with NTS.
