Yes it was on 2CH
Regarding the Caravan and Camping Show promo it also sounds like a bit of Hadley in the promo.
I listened to The Caravan and Camping Show on Friday at Drive on 2UE. Bowen and the Duck actually sound a little like Ray Hadley - especially with words like âyou imbecileâ being thrown around.
I now know what all the fuss is about. This 3 hours of radio was the most excruciating I have ever heard. It had very little to do with caravanning or camping. It was self-indulgent, blokey and pointless radio. Mind you I could not stop listening as it was hard to believe it was actually going to air in drive time.
You can download the podcast on 2ue.com and have a listen.
Stewart Lamb would be turning in his grave.
There are a few shows on 2GB like that
Maybe they will all make the move over to 2UE. Continuous Call Team, Summer Detention etc
It would probably make sense to move all sports related programming to the one station. 2GB has the A-League show and live NRL (and Olympics?). Move it all to 2UE which already has live cricket as well as NRL and AFL shows and Sports Today.
Thanks ânickatnightsâ. 1. For listening 2. The plug 3. The referal to the podcast. Catch you next Friday when you can expect more of the same. Cheers.
I wonder if weekend detention is too high rating to move to 2UE. It does make a lot of sense though. Not sure what they will replace the show with on 2gb assuming it could happen.
Maybe only Friday footy to 2UE makes sense.
If anything, I think that weâre more likely to see 2UEâs cricket coverage move to 2GB rather than the NRL coverage moving from 2UE to 2GB.
I didnât listen to it âliveâ but I did listen to most of the podcast before commenting on here. To be fair, I didnât think it was that bad. Itâs not a show Iâd necessarily make a point of listening to regularly. However, the banter between Chris Bowen and the Duck was much as I expected. Clearly they are great mates and have a lot of respect for each other and I think that comes over well on air.
When youâre presenting a âspecialistâ daytime show, it can be a difficult balance to strike if you are not to alienate the general audience who may not be that interested in the subject matter, I think they managed to strike that balance. It also had a good âstart of the weekendâ feel to it.
So whilst I donât see myself becoming a regular listener, Iâm happy to admit that I may have been unduly pessimistic about it previously!
Only time will tell whether this is the start of a resurgent 2UE. Personally I think they need to decide whether 2GB or 2UE is the main sports station and then program accordingly. Somehow though I canât see Continuous Call moving from 2GB.
Itâs just sad that under MRN they will never work too hard to allow 2UE to become no.1.
2GB and 3AW will always be their only priority.
In a perfect world, just sell off 2UE and 4BC, and put us all out of our misery.
Great to hear Brian Wilshire back on 2GB if only for a month.
Caught Chris Smith on 2GB saying something about moving into a larger studio today? Apparently new desks, monitors etc. Are these the existing studios that have been remodelled with new equipment?
Here is a video off Chris Smithâs FB page.
I say Breakfast with Ross and John (from AW) should be simulcast on 2UE?
With a share like 22.4% (possibly their highest ever, with 115 consecutive wins)âŚ
Itâs worth a try
-
itâs very Melbourne centric. Itâd be hard to make it work in Sydney without cannibalising the Melbourne market where it rates and they want it to keep rating. And yes, I know 4BC is essentially 2GB with a Brisbane tinge but I think these scenarios are different.
-
They donât need 2UE to be strong/a competitor to 2GB. Position it differently and try to take a niche segment of the market. Taking 3AW would not allow thatâs
Itâs not worth a try. In the same way itâs not worth bringing Alan Jones or Ray Hadley into Melbourne. Very different markets.
Exactly.
But I was more meaning how the show is light hearted / entertaining / funny.
Compared to Alan Jones, Neil Mitchell & Ray Hadley whoâs shows are all news/political commentarty based.
Besides, everyone knows Alan Jones & that heâs a Sydney conservative broadcaster. Same as everyone knows Neil Mitchell & that heâs a Melbourne broadcaster.
Nobody really knows Ray Hadley in Melbourne, just like nobody would know Ross Stevenson & John Burns in Sydney.
So why not worth a try? But perhaps youâre right
That is true but as On Air said their show is very Melbourne-based and would not resonate well in Sydney⌠just think of the feedback around here from Sydney getting the overnight show from 3AW.
Yeah I guess thatâs true, point taken
Itâs disappointing John and Gary arenât rating better. Theyâre actually quite entertaining. Best since Mike and Fitz.
A shame the rest of 2UE and its marketing pulls it back.
But this is the thing, is it not?
MRN donât want to afford to jeopardise 2GB? (Two talk stations)
If there was a massive promotion campaign (TV, newspaper & via 2GB) about 2UE, even some new presenter âjazz-upsâ, grab some popular regular guests, etc.
2GB after a while would be affected.
Especially looking at some of 2GBâs ratings, which have either been declining OR are already close to losing (i.e.) Ben Fordham, Alan Jones,
So I guess thatâs MRNâs strategy, just leaving 2UE âaloneââŚ?
