Maybe if 2GB and CCT do Origin, does that mean we could hear a mock call on MSR?
They must be going cheaply, it defies logic why this listed company wastes shareholder money on more talent costs for a format that has not and will not turn a profit for them.
It seems the major shareholders are complicit in this incomptence. This includes Nine who as I have stated before, appear to have no board representation, there’s still Fairfax directors on there such as Hywood.
I will say though if MSR ever flipped back to 2UE, Roy & HG would remain quite happily on that format on the weekend. I’d love to see a Radio 2 style personality talk network on 2UE, 3EE and 4BH, with smooth/classic hits music thrown in.
Given the 17/18FY saw an increase in revenue and, although there was a reduction in profit amount, there was still plenty of profit I’m not sure what all the fuss is about?
The share price has gone up over the last 12 months, so why would major shareholders be incompetent?
MML have 7 (main) assets, 7 licences of worth. That profit increase is from only 2 of them: AW & GB.
The rest are underperforming due to mgmt decisions. They’d make much more without the high cost albatross of MSR around their necks.
Macquarie also owns a PR company Map and Page, which appears to be a very small operation.
I’m glad you’re able to spell it out for me like I am an absolute moron or something. Cheers, can’t wait to be spoken down to again.
Im also well aware how many assets MRN have, I’ve said all along that MSR is (for lack of a better term) a secondary station to the main station in each of the 3 markets. I’m also well aware that this business (like most businesses) has more profitable arms than others. MRN is hardly unique.
I’m glad you have the opinion that it is all because of poor management decisions. I’d say you disagree with the choices the management have made, doesn’t make them poor. I don’t really care what decisions have been made, I’m more than happy to continue listening when I want. If MSR disappears, it disappears, I’m sure any other format will have its’ critics and fans just the same as this.
Graham and The Colonel weren’t available?
I remember way back 2UE taking the 3KZ is Football call of at least a couple of VFL Grand Finals with The Captain and The Major, who
I understood were the basis for the Graham and The Colonel skits.
That’s a shame you feel that way. Never my intention.
Don’t worry Glenn, I like listening to them as well but sadly there is some who think it should return back to ol’ 2UE because Gary O’Callaghan going to take them to No1 in 2019
I don’t think anyone thinks a change from the MSR format will return 2UE to No 1 - but not coming last would be an improvement.
If we’re being realistic, any chances of 2UE seriously becoming #1 in the ratings evaporated more than 10 years ago, if not 15.
The question that we’re asking is whether Macquarie Sports Radio is the most viable format for their secondary stations. At the moment, I actually wonder if 2RPH (let alone 2SM) gets more listeners than MSR at times!
I’d guess that the Sydney Chinese radio stations 2CR and 2AC which are on VHF and online have more listeners.
Had a bit of a laugh this morning when I saw the MSR website advertising a competition to win a holiday to the Macau Grand Prix with “Kevin Bartlett,” former racing driver but also happens to share a name with old mate KB who rattles on in the afternoons on rival SEN
In Sydney some would remember KB as this.
Great to see Mark Allen back in the studio today.
Where has he been?
My grandfather’s beer of choice. He used to let me have a sip or two when mum or grandmother wasn’t watching. He said it was OK because KB stood for Kids’ Beer.
Mark Allen is the guy who has been undergoing treatment for Stage 4 Bowel Cancer since the start of the year. He had missed the odd Friday upon their return (without explanation) but has had the past 4 weeks off (about a week after his cancer diagnosis was announced) as he underwent surgery to remove 70% of his rectum, after surgery to remove 18% of his lungs earlier in the year. Was also on Open Mike this week (on Fox Footy) telling his story.
Matt “Tonsils” Granland has been ably filling in in his absences this year.
