I moved from Sydney to Melbourne in 2017, completely checked out of Sydney radio and years later when I got into DXing AM I kept thinking 2UE must just have a “music overnight” program or something because they were irrevocably linked with conservative shock jocks in my head. I was really surprised to learn they had become an all-music station while I was away. It’s weird to see them with “friendly” branding because it was such an aggressive, dark station when Alan Jones and the like were on

First they have to start playing more 90’s music. A good even mix of music from 60’s to 90’s will suit Magic/2ue/4bh fine
Do you think they would play 90’s music on AM, since most people listened to new music in the 90’s on FM
2UE has been playing more 80s since the switch to the Magic feed, and Smooth Vintage has followed suit, by also playing more 80s.

In the metros yes, out in the regions it wasn’t a guarantee to even have a top 40 hits station on FM. Mildura for example didn’t get commercial FMs until the late 90s

4BH play 90s music on AM all the time. 4KQ used to as well.

Who has an AM radio any more? Even oldies like me have DAB+ and streaming.

Yeah 4BH occasionally play 2000s tracks too. Think they basically share the same playlist
The Australian is reporting that Nine wants to sell its radio network this year. Wonder if ACE will pick up the music stations? Or even the talk stations as well?

Ace might be able to pick up 3EE, but they’ve probably done too well managing 2UE/4BH that they’ll have priced themselves out of it.

As they’re AM stations, they’d be worth much less than an FM license.
SEN picked up 2CH during COVID for $5m and it rated higher than 2UE does now.
4KQ was a more expensive acquisition at $11m, due to its high ratings and extra 128kbps of DAB spectrum.
However, if all three (Magic, 2UE and 4BH) are sold in a bundle, then if ACE can get a good and fair price for them, it would be a good outcome.

Magic 1278 is now playing at 6:35am Sunday That Kiss by Faith Hill. A 2014 song
Ace should dump the current Classic Hits and use the Star 91.5fm format instead on Magic 1278, 2ue and 4bh instead
Instead of a Classic Hits station, Ace should use one of Magic’s Old slogans either
(1) The best songs of all time
(2) The songs you know and love
Play the best songs from 60s to now. Not hard is that
I doubt they’ll be making any radical changes to 4BH anytime soon. They could always put Star on DAB in the east coast capitals provided their agreement with Nine allowed it. (Or when the buy Nine Radio 
). Having said that I don’t mind some newer music mixed in with the classic hits.
