Nine Radio (Music)

3MP have this show

Oh interesting, they haven’t put that on their website.

I don’t see an issue with Magic 1278 using the same logo design as 3MP/2UE. It’s not that important and it brands them all together strongly. Still different names and identities.

That’s true. It would be unusual. There’s not too many instances of two stations sharing the same logo design in the same market, but it could still work. It clearly suggests that they are part of the same ‘stable’, which provides instant clarity to both listeners and advertisers.

Wow! BBQ Bob is sounding superb this morning… he’s totally on-song… ‘the endless summer of Classic Hits’ a syncopated rhythm to Boys of Summer 4BH… Nobody on the road, nobody on the beach.

What Ace should do on magic 1278 on Saturdays resume doing Jukebox Saturday Nights and on Suidays do Sunday Night 70’s with 2ue and 4bh

Just about all of ACE’s network is one example.

i think there is at least one Super Radio Network combo that does same

They dropped that a while ago. Magic recently started a Saturday Night 70s show, instead of the Jukebox.

I must admit that Jukebox is something 4BH can definitely improve on. They can get rid of the 80s for a start. Walking on Sunshine and Footloose have no place whatsoever.

When Dave D Whitcomb used to present it on 4KQ it was like an art form. Jukebox done well is more a celebration of rock n roll, than just a bunch of party tracks. And always just the right mix of rock n roll favorites and core artists that you hear every Saturday, with the odd rarity thrown in.

Having a listen to 2UE now that they’ve changed to ‘Classic Hits’.

I was expecting music a bit like what WSFM would have played 15-20 years, but it seems a bit softer than that ?? I would describe it as a hybrid of that and the old Easy Music format.

It’s okay, will definitely keep them in mind as I’m worried that Gold will modernise it’s music when Jonesy & Amanda return on Monday (as that’s my preferred commercial station these days).

Yes. Very apt.

They played another brick in the wall this afternoon, but it was surrounded by yacht rock, America horse with no name and James Taylor You got a friend immediately before, and followed by Wings Another day and Nicolette Larsen Lotta love.

So yes. Definitely on the easy side of classic hits.

You and 2WS go way back. It will be a big move if you pull the pin on them.

I know! Being too old for Gold will take a bit of getting used to!

They played Born to Run out of the midnight news yesterday. That was a nice highlight for me.

Not me, I’m Born To Sleep at that time of day.

2UE also have a great party mix on Saturday nights. Just listening to it now - they’re really bringing out the classics, with heaps of rare '60s and even '50s tracks.

I didn’t think any commercial station would play Bobby Darin, The Everly Brothers and Chuck Berry in 2025, but I’m glad they do!

Absolutely love it. They played Booby Darin’s Splish splash and multiplication. Interestingly, on 4BH I never hear Dreamlover (sadly they play the Glenn Shorrock version instead). Everly Brothers can never go a miss. And yes, Chuck Berry You never can tell - pure rock n roll.

4BH used to play Gary and Dave everyday. They flogged it. And now I’m going through withdrawals. Call me old fashioned, but I like the repetitiveness of commercial radio. I like familiarity. So I went searching for it… Sadly it seems it’s been banished, with the only plays these days on community:

Great track. I have it on volume 1 of the excellent Living in the 70s compilation CDs.

In fact my main motivation for discovering all these old songs is to gradually add them to my music collection and curated playlists, so that when this era of music does completely disappear from the airwaves, I’ll have built my own private classic hits ‘station’ :grinning:

I’ve been listening to 2UE this afternoon, I usually listen to Smooth and I have been enjoying the music mix. What I am not enjoying is that the ads on the stream are out of sync so you are hearing the start of ads then they get cut off mid sentence to go to what appears to be a personalised ad plus there are long pauses of silence mid ad. I am not using the listener app as I have too many apps on my phone as it is and don’t need another. I just use m3u8 URL. Plus it’s probably less likely they would be able to track me as much vs the Listener App. How true that is remains to be determined.

If you must use personalised ads at least sync them properly. Don’t get me started on pre stream ads. They are the most annoying of them all. Which is why I have setup my own local stream relay to avoid them.
