Magic happens: New radio gig for Jamie Row

As he prepares to mark 25 years in radio, double celebrations are in order for Jamie Row, who’s joined the ACE Radio Network as the Breakfast announcer on Melbourne’s Magic 1278 from 6-9am weekdays.

Jamie has worked across all timeslots during his radio career, but, as one who enjoys being up with the bird, a brekky shift is the perfect fit.

Good on him. I was listening to him over Christmas on 4BH and he was sounding sharp.

That article doesn’t mention it, but Jamie is also on 4BH from 7pm-12am Mon-Thu too. Agree that he was great over summer and so happy he’s got a couple of positions across the ACE network.

Update: It’s actually Mon-Fri now. For a lot of last year 4BH’s Totally 80s on Friday nights was announcer free, but I heard Jamie Row on there tonight.

Happy 100th Birthday 2UE :slightly_smiling_face:

Has anyone seen any outdoor advertising for Magic1278’s “Make the Switch” campaign which has been online for several months now?

The whole point of a campaign like this, is to obviously run external ads. Not just on-air & social mentions.

Liam Renton on 4BH this afternoon (filling in for Cathy Jubb).

Apart from his ATN gig, this is the first time in decades I’ve actually heard him doing a shift.

His first voicebreak wasn’t too bad, though, typical of Liam, he tried too hard, sounding desperate in attempting to relate to the older BH audience by talking about the good old days in the 80s of Brisbane’s best pizza from ‘Ribbetts’.

What rubbish. Ribbetts had sloppy pizza, everyone who was around at the time remembers that. Ribbetts was a cherished Brisbane institution and were known for their ribs! Liam grew up on the Sunshine coast and didn’t move to Brisbane until the mid 90s.

Nothing wrong with on-air presenters who are younger than the listening audience. Scott Menz and Cathy are excellent. But at least they don’t patronise us by trying to pretend they’re our age.

Another fail sadly from Liam.

Burp!!!

Magic 1278 is also doing an Easter 500, probably the same one!

Not as good as the 4KQ Easter 1000 hits was

How can you tell? List of songs haven’t been published yet!

Well there’s twice as many songs for a start… Based on last year’s 4BH countdown it wasn’t bad, but the 4KQ Easter countdown went a lot deeper in terms of rarer hits.

Strange 2ue is not doing the easter top 500 as well for some reason

Oops for Ace Radio. It looks like they forgot to take down the voting page for the Magic 1278 Easter 500 countdown even though the voting is now closed

Here’s the 4BH list 500 to 11.

And Magic 1287 list 500 to 11.

4KQ’s Easter countdown was based on Brisbane charts so featured many songs that were ‘big in Brisbane’. Cloudland favorites that gave the locals lots of warm fuzzies.

4BH’s countdown is just a reflection of their everyday playlist. For example, every time BBQ Bob plays Elvis he says ‘4BH, Brisbane’s home of the King’, so there’s plenty of Elvis in there. But no obscure Brisbane bands from the 70s, because 4BH doesn’t play that sort of tat.

Another song that seems to be popular in Brisbane is Rock Lobster by the B-52s.

It’s a real stinker of a song.
