So a few things in one post
Firstly, I wouldn’t be upset if they changed the 4BH colours to the Magic colours, the orange they use as the background on the Magic 1278 website is nice, it’s just the logo that’s not great. The 4BH logo just looks so much better to me instead of that “not quite a rectangle” rectangle.
I don’t think they’ll change anything to do with 4BH though, it’s a powerhouse in Brisbane now and it’s one of the rare times in radio I can think of where Brisbane is probably considered more important than Sydney or Melbourne - lucky us.
Secondly, when 2UE is playing the right news opener, I noted they’ve added a reference to the fact they’re turning 100 this year (this Jan 26th according to Wikipedia), so that’s pretty awesome. Also seems like 2UE doesn’t push the whole “30 minutes of continuous Classic Hits” coming out of the news the same way 4BH does.
Thirdly, yea Ace do refer to the ‘Ace Radio Network’, I hear that as part of every 4BH News opener. Most of the time though from what I’ve observed, each of the stations has their own music log. For the announcers who are shared across Australia, they actually do put effort into including references to local things in their talk breaks and generally pronounce things properly - it makes the station feel like all the announcers are local, even though some aren’t.
In terms of the networked shows, here’s the current list according to their website:
- Classic Hits Lunchbox 12-1pm weekdays (4BH and Magic 1278 - although I imagine 2UE will eventually take this, I’m surprised they didn’t from today actually since Gavin Miller is now on 2UE from 10am-2pm so it’d fit in seamlessly)
- Classic Hits Countdown 10am-12pm Sundays (4BH, 2UE and Magic 1278)
- Sunday Night 70s 6pm-12am Sundays (4BH and 2UE - not sure why Magic 1278 doesn’t take this)
Not counting Sunday Morning 60s because the website says 2UE, 4BH and 3MP all have different announcers for this, so it doesn’t sound particularly networked, although I’ve never listened myself because I’m not up that early on a Sunday
Lastly, looks like from the website update today that Jamie Row is now permanently on 4BH weeknights 7pm-12am (in additional to his Melbourne breakfast show on Magic 1278). That’s pretty awesome, Jamie was great over summer and so I think that’s a pretty strong lineup on 4BH now with BBQ Bob, Scott Menz, Gavin Miller, Cathy Jubb and Jamie Row (with Dom Rinaldo doing Sunday Night 70s).
