I have heard them play the ONJ/Dolly recent release of Jolene, although I suspect that’s more for nostalgia and respect for Olivia.
How are the classic tunes sounding now at 4BC breakfast? Just asking for Bob
So the 4BH Easter 500 countdown just finished with Bohemian Rhapsody at number 1. Interestingly Magic 1278 had the same number 1 song although their countdown had the other songs in a different order to 4BH. Not sure if there was different songs between the two stations or just different ordering, would have to compare the listings to see.
I do wonder if the number 1 song was a small tribute to 4KQ listeners by 4BH Or if the voting legitimately had that at number 1 due to lots of ex 4KQ listeners voting that way trying to recreate the 4KQ countdown.
aren’t these polls/countdowns all just made up, anyway?
Interesting questions. 4BH has done Countdowns before. One list I kept from 2011 was the best 1,000 songs of all time and Bohemian Rhapsody wasn’t even on the list, let alone number one.
I always questioned the Easter countdown list that 4KQ used to play anyway. Not sure when Bohemia Rhapsody came to be in the number one spot.
Other lists I have seen including the top 1,000 hits of the 70s on the Brisbane charts had the Queen song at number 4 and Abba’s Fernando at number one.
I can distinctly recall 4IP running these types of countdowns (that were at that time about current music rather than classic hits) and Fernando always used to rank as number one.
Here is the full countdown for the Easter Top 500
I noticed few 90’s songs in the countdown such as The Horses by Daryl Braithwaite that Magic 1278 does not normally play
Can anyone see any other 90’s songs in that lists?
It looks like Magic 1278 is sort of playing songs from the 90’s now
Magic 1278 just played Rod Stewart - Rhythm of My Heart from 1991
3MP is also now playing s lot of 90s smooth type songs like Michael Bublé and Maria Carey
I always questioned the Easter countdown list that 4KQ used to play anyway. Not sure when Bohemia Rhapsody came to be in the number one spot.
I heard Brent James say it was based on the Brisbane charts from 1960 to 1989 I think and never changed from year to year because of this. I don’t know the exact formula they used.
I never knew ACE/2UE would have exposure at this years show as they are not listed as a sponsor.
Regardless, well done to the team. On-brand and really something that 2CH could’ve done back in its day.
Awkward last sentence on this competition page:
Gold Coast Marathon - 1116 4BH
3MP want to help you go a little faster and secure that WIN, by hooking you up with a pair of ASICS runners worth over $300!!!
Are 4BH starting to play some 90s songs now?Today I heard “Joey’ by Concrete Blonde (whatever happened to this group ?) 1990
Another day I heard “Torn” Natalie Imbruglia from 1997
Have been for a few months now.
Magic should do the same thing then
Play more 90’s songs then
If 4bh can play 90’s songs. Magic 1278 should be able to the same thing
I have no problem with some 90s songs on 4BH. It’s all about song selection. 4BH used to mix old and new easy listening songs and it sounded great. Breeze FM does it too.
They are occassionally, eg. 3Am by Matchbox Twenty on a 5pm countdown last week and a few others I can’t remember just now.
Edit: Just now 5:23 2/5 Ace of Base “All that she wants”.
they’d probably fit right in at Magic 1278.
For Grubby and Dee Dee to do Magic Breakfast. They need to move Shawn Consgrove to 3mp Breakfast as well For Dave Ferguson he currently does 2ue nights and 3mp Sunday Mornings no loss for him either
I found out roughly how the Nine Radio/ACE Radio lease works yesterday, apparently it’s really only a lease on air time & ACE Radio are essentially just content providers to Nine Radio (Music).
Nine Radio have a small space in one of their PIE racks in each studio MCR where ACE Radio deliver audio only to them, from there Nine Radio process & transmit that audio on each station as though it was coming out of their own studios, ACE radio are not leasing any licences or transmission equipment, that’s all still owned & operated by Nine Radio.
I’m guessing Nine Radio didn’t want to program any music stations or didn’t have the expert staff to do so, I’m assuming it could’ve been anyone supplying them with music audio, but ACE came up with the deal Nine Radio were happy to accept.
But Nine radio have Brent James wasting away on 4BC.
