Does ACE have control over any Sydney DAB+ space?

It’d be nice to see 2UE Classic Hits DAB+ and leave Easy Music 2UE on 954AM.

They would likely have to do a deal with Nine to increase their allocation to something like 96kbs to have 2 stations broadcasting at 48kbs.

I listened to 4BH again today but I don’t think they will become the station 4KQ listeners will listen to after this Thursday evening unless they plan to have local programs and presenters. Also they need to have even more variety, they are flogging some songs I’ve noticed

Well some of them

Ad just ran on 4KQ inviting listeners to change to there once 4KQ closes.

“When you say goodbye to 4KQ, say hello to classic hits 4BH.”

Update uploaded to YouTube - it sounds slightly distorted, but that is how it was broadcast.

Can ACE in Sydney use the DAB+ space that Nine Radio was using for NTS to for Magic Classic Hits DAB+?

Since Nine Radio is not using it at the moment

Same in Brisbane for a Easy Music Station?

As mentioned earlier, I’d listen to Magic’s music any day over 2UE’s.

Ace couldn’t of chosen a more ugly logo for their Nine Radio music stations. I have enjoyed the mix of music when I have listened to the station on 2UE.

I kinda think they should maroon up their 4BH website, but I don’t think the logo’s that bad. Magic’s is worse, and at least it wasn’t the stock ACE station logo design.

There waa no need to change the logo in the first place. Let alone use such a ugly logo.

I mean… there was need to change the logo even before the ACE era…

It’s nice to have an actual-different looking logo for Nine Music vs. Nine Talk instead of “kinda different, but really the same”

Yes, that would be logical. ACE could broadcast both stations in Sydney on DAB with 48kbs each, if they come to an agreement with Nine, for an extra 24kbs of capacity. It would be a good outcome for ACE and listeners as there is a gap in the market for a classic hits station, as 2UE is easy listening.

Or Better Yet, Get 2UE to beef up the Playlist a Bit with Some Rock Music Added for Variety.

I can only imagine it could really survive as a DAB or iHeart stream these days given the demographic - I guess something along the lines of Hot Tomato Gold comes to mind; could be arguably used as a template for sub-stations of River and Hot91 if the mess that is regional DAB is sorted out, even if there is no room for such a thing in Brisbane itself.

On the other hand, ARN could just wipe it out and put on the same iHeart 80s and 90s stations as in Brisbane instead. :man_shrugging:

On more on-topic note - it’s certainly an interesting development to hear 4BH inheriting the “classic hits” brand - shows ACE is a bit more willing to tailor the format to fill a gap than I expected, even if it just ends up a case of picking and choosing shows from the 3MP and Magic formats to suit.

The first of the now former 4KQ announcers has surfaced at 4BH now.

“BBQ Bob” has popped up in the program guide from Monday doing Breakfast according to the website.

UPDATE: Courier Mail article also confirms this. However, he won’t begin until July 11th.

He said he would bring an “unmistakably” Brisbane feel to the show and tipped to take the station to the next level when he starts on July 11.

Gallagher will be the solo breakfast host, in tandem with guests, listeners calling in and of course, music.

For some reason ace did not go after Laurel, Gary & Mark which is a shame for the trio

Who says they didn’t? Maybe they just couldn’t get a deal. It’s quite likely one or all of them didn’t want to go to 4BH.
Although 4BH’s budget would be fairly limited too, so they’d probably have a hard time making 3 people (plus the support team they’d need - which would be at least one producer) fit into the budget.
