Because sport is the main reason they have a HD simulcast. 10 also use(d) a HD add-on for sport but not regular programming. 9Gem and 7/7mate are the same.

Should be the other way around, SD transmission should be labelled as such. Much like how black and white content was identified with a b&w or b/w symbol when colour transmission started.

Take 7Two, the demographic watching that channel probably donāt even consider SD/HD etc but imagine if you started advertising 7Two SD

I also reckon that every program should have a āIn High Definition on Channel 90 (or whatever LCN)ā tag at the start of every native HD show (which I know, is almost all of the new/recent ones), similar to how we had āAvailable on Digital Widescreenā supers during the early days of Digital TV.

All FTA channels should be HD by now, itās 2021, not 1950. I hate watching a program on SD, my eyes bleed.

Agreed. They used to, but stopped it around maybe 12 years ago.
A great way to subtly promote a program having better picture quality and the HD product. But it is odd the channel is called Nine HD, yet the watermark only has Nine on it.

Also as noted earlier, just to be inconsistent, the tennis coverage on the main channel has no HD watermark.

Better still, like SBS, cease the transmission of some SD down-convert channel(s), as in Viceland.
As to why people still view SD transmission says everything. All broadcast channels, even if only broadcast as SD, are HD internally at the networks in their origination. They have had their bandwidth squeezed to death with all the multi-channels. Even the HD channels (even as h.264) donāt look as good when HD started back in the early 2000s being they have had their bandwidth squeezed too.
If the networks were to take up the multiplex sharing proposal from the Govt (doubtful), you would see the SD down-convert simulcasts of the main channel gone.
Strangely (and sensibly), even though MPEG2, 7QLD main channel is only available in HD.
Give it another 2 to 3 years, MPEG2 should hopefully be gone everywhere? Most 7TWO viewers would have h.264 reception capability by now as those MPEG2 only STBās and receivers canāt last forever.

I donāt know if anyone else has noticed this, but the way Nineās network presentation (particularly PRGs) are played-out vs Seven, 10, etc almost appear to have a more manual intervention / effort put in, than purely just script automation from say a programming schedule. If so, wouldnāt be surprising how this happened, someone clicking a button wrong vs full computer automation. Anyone know what Iām trying to get at? Iām probably wrong though.
Even Cynic noticed odd colour scheming on Gold Coast channels the other day.
