Nine Olympic Coverage (Paris)

Next few weeks

Does this go the other way? Like are any other countries getting 9’s feed?

According to Sunday Herald Sun’s Jon Anderson, Seven has decided to not to release Bruce McAvaney to Nine for the Paris Olympics, and Bruce is said to be “saddened” by the turn of events.

No Melbourne Cup or Olympics for Bruce this year

Wonder if Bruce could still be released to call for the world feeds. He did the swimming in 2012 when Nine had the rights.

Why would Seven release him to their rival, Nine? I think Bruce will commentate for the IOC world feed but it makes no sense for Seven to allow him to front the coverage for the competitor

Wouldn’t the IOC world feed be available on 9Now?

For Tokyo 7+ had the world feed streams for all events didn’t they?

I remember watching the basketball on the basketball stream & it was the world feed but if it shown on 7 or 7mate & you watched that stream then it was 7’s commentators

Yes they did have all the world feeds. IIRC I think Seven used the world feed on Seven, 7Two, 7Mate if they didn’t have commentators for certain sports.

Late April Fools? C’mon Jonno, as if this was even a chance of happening! Surprised Nine would even fancy the thought. I’m calling BS on this TBH.

It really does sound like BS or even “old news” given Nine have signed Gerard Whately as play by play for the athletics and he was given special dispensation from SEN and Fox.

They maybe asked for Bruce prior to signing Gerard but now they wouldn’t really need Bruce as a host as they have plenty of people that host the broadcasts.

They already did. Was mentioned earlier in the thread.

If Bruce is doing it for IOC (swimming or athletics), then he probably will end up being on 9’s platforms anyways, since they will probably have world feed on 9Now.

I guess for 7, him being on 9Now is better than 9 using Bruce to promote their coverage and 7 losing viewers (which will happen anyways cause it’s the Olympics)

Channel 7 not allowing Bruce McAvaney to be part of channel 9 Olympic coverage is a disgrace

That’s business. Especially when Bruce is under contract (that he agreed too) and is earning a healthy income from Seven.

There’s also every chance that he might of wanted to do an overseas games, especially when having to adjust to the time difference between Australia and France. Also he’s been reducing his workload, and probably wants a break over winter after covering the horse racing over summer.

I still wouldn’t rule out Bruce doing stuff for the OBS though if he still wanted to be involved, but had to reach an agreement with Seven.

First Olympics since 1976 that there is no Bruce (London 2012 he called the world feed, Tokyo 2021 he called from the studio in Australia).

We have not confirmed he won’t be doing OBS. That statement is false until we see otherwise.

Forgive me if I’ve missed it, but is Todd involved in Nine’s coverage beyond tennis?

Another note, should this thread be “Nine/Stan” or do we have a separate thread for Stan’s coverage?

Will make a decision closer to the event if we splinter out Stan, but for now both fine in here.

Tara Rushton mentioned that the Stan sport coverage wil be hosted from Melbourne. Looks like only 9 main coverage will be from Paris itself.
