Wouldn’t they also show the world feeds?
Also protocols/restrictions for
displaying the Union Jack for promotion/marketing
It depends actually
When I was in London in 2022 i was able to watch Optus sport on my mobile (I was watching the 3pm kickoff on the bus for example) because when mobile roaming you have an Australian IP.
It might just work
Seems like a good offering, but have to wonder if there is enough demand there to get people off 9Now and paying a minimum of $27 for effectively a few analysis shows, 4K, and ad-free.
i’ll be buying for the month. not so much for “a few analysis shows, 4K, and ad-free” and not even for the international coverage being offered (although i will be checking it out) but for the 40 individual sport channels - i can decide what to watch, not the networks.
my wife is a big gymnastics and equestrian fan. she will watch it all day whereas I’ll watch basketball and weightlifting
Wall-to-wall Olympic coverage across the channels and stations of Nine will be the biggest coverage of an Olympic Games in Australia despite the timezone
9Now will also have those 40 channels.
You’ve confirmed my argument. 9Now offers every single sport. All those 40 channels are on 9Now. The only points of difference are a few analysis shows, 4K, and ad-free.
I’d also be surprised if the 40 world feed channels on 9Now had advertisements. Practically I am unsure how it would work. I don’t believe 7+ did for Tokyo.
I think 7+ did have all sports during Tokyo using the world feed. So I think 9Now will probably be the same but maybe with the feature of starting over since 9Now has that while 7+ doesn’t?
I’d imagine 9Now’s world feeds would have a 15-30 second preroll ad and that’s it (which would still be annoying if you’re channel flipping), if anything.
7+ had that for Tokyo. 30seconds of ads when ever you switch stream to a different sport
Assuming of course that someone wants to buy the ad space; otherwise it could be promo city for Nine programs.
Can you split screen with Stan?
Add free ceremony will be amazing especially after Sevens recent efforts
There are 4 curated channels as well. These will move from event to event based on what is occurring live at the time. I’m guessing these will be hosted channels. In the email I received it said these channels were in addition to 40 channels that are live streaming each sport.
Hey what about a comedy show.
Assuming that you are referring to a show similar to “The Dream” or “Last Leg,” I don’t think Nine will need to ‘lighten up’ their coverage in the same way Channel 7 and Channel 4 have done in the past with their Olympic or Paralympic coverage because they have prioritized the actual events as the main focus.
Another thing to consider is that if Nine were to commission a show in a similar vein to either of those two examples and it happened to succeed, it would probably morph into a non-Olympic format. This would likely mean more money would be spent trying to transform the format from a sports-specific focus to some type of light entertainment program, which would probably flop.
Wouldn’t really work for Paris with events being played late at night, although they still did The Dream in 2004 when the games were in Athens.
Stan Sport reveals world first in Olympics coverage
Stan Sport will showcase eight international channels during the 2024 Olympic Games in a world first for the streaming platform.
Stan will be the only place to watch every event from Paris ad free, live and on demand with the biggest moments in 4K Ultra HD.
Stan’s comprehensive coverage will complement the 9Network’s offerings across free to air assets and 9Now, bringing the Olympics to Australian audiences better than ever before.
“2024 is set to become the biggest year of sport for Stan and we are delighted to deliver the most comprehensive, innovative and uninterrupted, ad free viewing experience for the Olympic Games in Australian history, and 4K for the first time ever in Australia,” Stan’s chief executive Martin Kugeler said.
“Due to our unique live and on demand offering we will make sure Australian sport fans can watch every epic moment from Paris 2024 when and where they want. Our fantastic lineup of some of the biggest sporting legends will provide expert commentary, insights and analysis.”
The Olympics begin on July 26 and Stan unveiled its plans at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday.
Stan revealed that viewers can enjoy the curated official coverage from the UK, Spain, France, Germany, Greece and Italy (Eurosport), India (Viacom 18) and New Zealand (Sky New Zealand), with world class international experts and extensive daily shows.
That means the Olympics will reach more communities in Australia than ever before, in languages they are familiar with.
“Thanks to the support from the IOC and the great partners of Eurosport, TV18 and Sky New Zealand, Stan Sport will bring curated official international channels in multiple languages, making the Olympics accessible to even more Australians than ever before,” Kugeler said.
“We are proud to bring this world first to our audience.”
Stan will also broadcast the Olympics Daily and Paris Preview shows, hosted by Tara Rushton and Adam Peacock.
The shows will include opinion and analysis from some of Australia’s premier Olympics voices, including Ash Barty, Grant Hackett, Stephanie Rice, Nova Peris and John Steffensen.
“As part of the Nine group, Stan together with the 9Network and 9Now will bring Paris 2024 to every fan in Australia,” Kugeler said.
“To deliver the world’s most prestigious sporting event just three years after launching Stan Sport is a testament to the ambition, passion and dedication of the team at Stan.”
