Nine Olympic Coverage (Paris)

Probably a pretty small percentage of viewers - but no doubt there would be some.

Also, NBC not there either, not that I’d expect them to be.

This afternoon i rang Channel Nine and asked about the full play-by-play commentary team for Paris 2024 Games. I think it is possibly that Mat Thompson would do the Play-by-play swimming commentary on Nine. if Mat Thompson goes to France to call the Olympic Games, there might be a shortage of NRL commentators during the Games.

Probably has something to do with NBC being Seven’s long time US partner in news etc.

Foster did SBS’ Beijing 2008 coverage which was shared with 7 then

Is Peter Psaltis (Nine’s #2 NRL PbP caller) part of the Paris team as well?

If not, I wouldn’t be surprised if Nine use him for every game they have while Thompson’s away.

If he is, they might do what they did with Peter Sterling in 2012, and have one of the ex-players who normally does special comments handle PbP.

(This can be moved to the NRL coverage thread if necessary)

So there’ll only be the extra shows in terms of Stan productions?

Interestingly, it appears to be the Eurosport coverage from the UK too, not the BBC

also NBC is renowned for how crap there coverage is

So in addition to the 40 live streams for each sport there’s also 4 channels on Stan that seem to be curated that move back and forward through a variety of action.

Pretty comprehensive coverage it would seem.

It has to be though if you’re asking customers to pay for it - there needs to be a big enough value proposition to get them across from watching it on 9/9now for free

I have Stan Sport but there is a 5 device limit

Is that the Indian flag?

There are specific rules about using the Indian flag in advertising I believe (need written consent of the govt/govt department).

This is great coverage. Nine and Stan are going all out!

I guess Stan coverage will be add break free.

Also, I will be in France for the Olympics, can I watch Stan over there?

No

You are stuck with French commentary on France Televisions and Eurosport, I am afraid.

If you use a very useful app that requires a global location to access Stan

Trying to avoid French commentary

Eurosport wouldn’t bother offering (at least some of) the English language versions they offer in the UK on Max/Discovery+/whatever app WBD use for this in France?
