I wonder what will be new about it though, given how underwhelming tonights graphics change has been.

Dont get me wrong the graphics update is nice but thats really it

To me the ‘Footy News’ set looks fake / computer generated. Assume it’s recorded from the TOSS. Maybe that screen on the right is just edited on to the backdrop.

The thing that I find annoying is the voiceover states the bulletin and the newsreaders names and then goes to the studio shot.

I like the Seven arrangement where its the graphic and v/o for news but then the name/s of the newsreaders are voiced with the wide shot of the studio and the newsreader/s. Same as 10.

Big difference in the rundowns of Sydney and Melbourne, which is interesting.

Full screen graphics look fab. Title cards look incredible, but the theme really doesn’t suit it. The 9News logo doesnt really sit comfortably with the rest of the supers.

Split screen looks fabulous, no need for anything else on screen. The opening title card is nice too.

Unsure about the supers at this point. It’s a bit jarring to the eye in the sense your eye has to read the headline, then move someplace else to read the sub-text.

The dotty Australia on the bug completely misses the mark. Not sure what that’s about?

Sydney. Has a lot more elements than Melbourne. Bulletin and full screen caps.

Initial thoughts:

  • Overall much better than the last package.
  • I don’t feel a need for localisation in the openers because there are enough elements already - the last package was so plain
  • The music does not work at all anymore, especially in the main titlecard opener. Really needs to be refreshed.
  • The titlecard opener is too long - would be nice to continue with a wideshot of the set while the anchors are announced
  • The supers really need to be addressed - way too disjointed with the subtitle next to the logo. Prime example here:

Completely disjointed from “Trent”. As others have mentioned, removing the country could help but ideally the subtitle should sit above the logo within the white container.
  • Not a big fan on the headline titles either - they are okay but I think they need to be moved upward a bit so that they don’t sit directly under the 9 News logo. They look good in the OTS graphic
  • Weather graphics are a step up and much cleaner to look at
  • Thankfully Melbourne has removed the custom “Livinia’s Weather” graphic. Hopefully they have a new network-wide graphic like the last package did (“Melbourne Weather with Livina Nixon
  • I like the split screen, looks really modern but not sure how well it will work in a scenario with multiple reporters

Also liked that they have re-introduced the supers for the presenters, even if it was midway through the bulletin for Peter Overton, while for James Bracey it was at the start of the sports segment.

Love the transition coming back from break and using the OTS. Really sleek.

They seem to use it any time it’s just the live shot and then they transition the ots on. It looks great. Like I said earlier it reminds me of 2005 presentation.

Melbourne is definitely a lighter colour than Sydney. Graphics look good, a refresh is always nice, but they’re nothing out of the box.
Newsreading pair are average tbh.

Ditch the Aussie map, we know where we are.

Tom is incredibly lightweight, no presence at all and no depth in his voice, Alicia should have just gone solo, or join Pete for a few years.

It looks like a hybrid of the prior graphics from National Nine News era and the 16-20 package. Especially the transitions in the opener and to sport/live/weather etc.

Overall it’s a modern revamp and is pretty well polished. Can totally understand people’s issues with the disjointed supers but it’s a massive upgrade.

The previous package aged quite quickly. Give it time and I’m sure some tweaks will be made as it’s rolled out and they’d have time to assess.

Props to Nine, pats on the back deserved IMO

Given the horrific state of graphics in NZ at the moment, I’m impressed.

Well done Nine!

Have to agree. Alicia could be doing this solo. In someways it was a bit awkward having Tom to her right.

Hopefully, it’s a bit different once they’re in the studio.

Alicia and Tom is like a teacher and their student presenting together. Tom just feels weird playing second-fiddle to Alicia and doesn’t have the oomph in his presentation style. Alicia’s great as usual and should’ve got the role solo.

Mike and Bec on the other hand are much easier to watch.

That huge screen is just the normal weather plasma, abielt moved slightly forward.

This.

It’s not:

Possibly a new screen with less bezels which fits the same size of the old stand.

Or as mentioned, computer generated graphics.

Probably a bit harsh to say Tom shouldn’t be there after just one night and off set.
