My tip when Hitch retires is TJ and Alicia double header. Brett on weekends.
Double header? Seriously? Pete better never retire then!
That definitely sounds to me like something tied into TJs contract but the network not having enough faith in him being the sole presenter.
In her early years with Nine she did do afternoon news updates occasionally, back in the day when Jo Hall presented Melbourne news updates during the week.
Personally l really hope Alicia Loxley replaces Hitch when he eventually retires, but just maybe Tony Jones and the network have other ideas⌠double header bulletin in Melbourne wouldnât work in my opinion.
If Melbourne decides that Hitchenerâs replacement should be just a male, I think Brett McLeod is a better option than Tony Jones.
Personally I hope that Tony Jones will be the one to replace Hitch when the time comes.
Iâm not sure why he gets so much hate on this forum, heâs really not all that bad. He also has (arguably) a bigger profile than Alicia, considering he regularly fills in on 3AW, was the sports presenter on Today in 2019, is part of the Sunday Footy Show, and most importantly, currently presents sport on Melbourneâs most watched news service five nights a week.
As for replacing Tony on sport, I would leave Clint Stanaway on weekends with Alicia since the two of them are a great duo, and poach Nathan Templeton from Seven for weeknight sport.
To be fair, from a profile perspective Alicia isnât that far off at all. She fills in for Dee Dee on 3AW, does the local afternoon news, presented news on Today, and presents the highest rating local bulletin in the country on weekends (her ratings are arguably higher than Hitchâs).
Alicia Loxley is back presenting First at Five News and Melbourne News this weekend.
And we can see why she doesnât read the news. Sheâs great, but a bit too âhappyâ for the stories she was reading.
Has 9 got its main hosts on tonight?
Not in Melbourne. Alicia is hosting.
Georgie Gardner is presenting in Sydney and Jono Uptin in Brisbane tonight.
If this doesnât prove that Peter Overton wouldâve chosen to present last Saturday nightâs bulletin (in contrast to Mark Ferguson, who Iâd imagine was told to come in by management both last week & tonight), Iâm really not sure what willâŚ
I didnât get your point of view last week and I still donât tonight.
Brett McLeod & Sophie Walsh are hosting the funeral of Prince Philip live from Melbourne.
They will then take live feed from the BBC at 12am for the start of the funeral.
A different look at the Melbourne set
If only the revamped Sydney set still had the LHS 3x3 video wall instead of the lightbox. Would give that set a bit more versatility.
The Melbourne set looks brilliant apart from the blue lighting.
