I believe a lot of the national production staff are there. Most national reporters are flying in and out of Melbourne at the moment.

I believe recently she was on holidays.
Because they are using the opportunity to build up the younger talent who will take over when Hitch retires?
Jo might have been the obvious candidate ten years ago but she’s not anymore, and certainly won’t be if Hitch keeps going for another few years yet.

We’ve seen Sydney weather presenters present daytime news very competently, so yes, why not Livinia. I’m surprised she hasn’t already actually.

Sydney weather presenters are usually journalists, Livinia (who is a great weather presenter) is a commercial actress turned variety co-host.

Yep, I agree. Jo Hall will probably be at (or at the very least, near) retirement age herself sometime in the next decade so when Hitch retires, it’d be for the best if Nine News Melbourne kept the future in mind and brought in a weeknight presenter who’s actually likely to remain in the role for 20-25 years.
She’s been presenting the weather on Nine News Melbourne for what, 17 years now?
Don’t know how much in the way of serious news/journalism Livinia has done in the past but going by the forecasts of hers I’ve seen, she hardly comes across as being the type of presenter who’d probably do an Allan Raskall-like performance if tasked with reading a full bulletin!

A fantastic weather presenter, but why put someone who’s training comes from acting and hosting variety & game shows to read the news when there’s plenty of other competent people to do it?
There probably are, although far too often we’ve seen Nine use journalists which really should stick to reporting out in the field as fill-in news/weather presenters, while others which shine in the studio don’t get as much time in such roles as they should!
