Saw a new reporter on the Sydney 6pm bulletin tonight - Helene Lambetsos, she did a live cross and did well.

And I got a good chuckle out of seeing Lizzie Pearl dressed up as a Swiftie!

Helene isn’t new. She’s been at Nine for quite a few years. Previously Nine Radio before moving to the newsroom. She did reporting before being promoted to Chief of Staff.

Queensland sports presenter Jonathan Uptin is in Los Angeles covering the NRL season opener Stateside.

In a similar vein, Nine had Edward Godfrey cover the Penrith Panthers World Club Challenge preparation in England tonight.

Somewhat understandable given Nine would have been reluctant to send a sports journo over just for that, but for me, also interesting given Godfrey is a South Australian (AFAIK) and probably wouldn’t have a strong NRL background.

he probably wasn’t much of an expert on the Danish monarchy, but when you’re a reporter you report on whatever’s going on, more so for a correspondent.

Presumably reporters also have the ability to research information, and also I would assume that Nine would have hours of old rugby games he could watch to get him up to speed.

I would assume that Nine would have hours of old rugby games he could watch to get him up to speed.

Not the way it works, suggest there’d be a bit of collaboration between the correspondent and the sports department around possible angles/topics worth probing on . Their script (time zone allowing) might even be sent back to be checked over by the sport to sharpen it up or tidy.
