‘Festering sore’: Nine on edge as Georgie Gardner faces probe over autocue incident

Insiders say the incident, which was allegedly over an issue with the autocue, is the “talk of the newsroom”.

“She [Georgie] probably has had a go,” a Nine insider said. “But the whole joint is really sensitive at the moment,” the source continued… “They need to get that [cultural review] report out and move on. It’s like festering sore,” the insider added…

Another Nine staffer…vouched for Ms Gardner, saying she had always been “pleasant” to work with.

A fellow employee also described Ms Gardner as a “lovely, strong woman”.

Confidential understands it was in fact a news story that was “dropped” last minute, midway through the bulletin that caught Gardner off guard.

A second ‘discussion’ about the mishap is believed to have taken place in the newsroom after the bulletin…

“It was honestly over nothing,” said one observer. “The response wasn’t good. I feel like it seemed like it was already really tense. A look can mean a thousand words with Georgie.”

A statement from Director of News and Current Affairs Fiona Dear:

“Georgie Gardner is a highly regarded longstanding member of our Nine News team. We offer no further comment.”

Conflicting info to the Daily Mail though, reporting that the “heated exchange” was over Georgie wanting her intros rewritten.

Yep, here’s one. Brayden ripped this bulletin from QLD and NT Television Archive’s YouTube channel, and with most local ad breaks removed, except for one ad break 29 minutes and 15 seconds into the video. Entire video is PAL-pitched too, and a Dell Technologies ad is seen at the very beginning of this. No ugly green seen here though.

Meh. My channel has a diverse archive in high definition.

Also, Georgie has had a reputation prior to this story coming out. This allegation would come as no surprise to some.
