Peter Stefanovic presenting Morning & Afternoon News.
If Pete read the Morning and Afternoon News the Friday before as well, I would comfortably confirmed him as Deb Knight’s maternity relief each Friday.
Amelia Adams filling in for Davina on Morning News today.Davina was still on the Afternoon News.
That might happen regularly as she is pregnant (morning sickness I presume). Amelia Adams looks to be the front runner to return to the Morning and Afternoon News once Davina goes on ML.
@SydneyCityTV, Can you please tell me who read sport on Nine News Sydney last night?
@nationalnews l think the Friday role will continue to rotate amongst various people including Pete and Jayne Azzopardi.
Let’s remember that Deb didn’t work on Fridays every single week.Whoever is available on the day will present Fridays bulletin l would think.
I do agree Amelia would be the front runner to fill in for Davina.

Tim Gilbert.
Thanks @mirb. It will be interesting to see if he continues with the role. If he didn’t want to do 6 days/week, he could do a similar roster to what Georgie when she was on Today. Tuesday-Friday on Today and Friday and Saturday on Nine News.
The male model from Mudgee, Kenny Sutcliffe, has signed to Nine for another 5 years
Interesting and good news for Nine if it is true. This signing could also have played a factor for Cameron Williams quitting, you never know.
It’s to my understanding that Ken Sutcliffe has been presenting weeknight Sport on Nine Sydney’s 6pm bulletin since May 1988 (I believe Ken was the successor to the late Mike Gibson, after he jumped ship to Ten at that time) so I think the network would want to keep his services for as long as possible.
Well Ken Sutcliffe would have to be in his mid-60’s now, surely? I agree that he would most likely be thinking of retirement (and of course a much deserved one too after such a long career at Nine ) by the time the new contract ends around 2020/2021.
Have been watching Sally Ayhan (former Perth Weather Presenter) do some reporting internationally on TRT World. Very very good reporter, Nine missed a chance there.
Peter Hitchener will celebrate his 70th birthday this Sunday. This morning during his weekly appearance on ‘Today’ they showed some of his career highlights ahead of his birthday this weekend.
Pete is a lovely bloke who has been a familiar face in Melbourne for so long .
Happy Birthday Hitch !
@SydneyCityTV thanks for posting report l actually wasn’t home to watch it.
Nicest bloke in television is a fitting description of Pete, and one of the best newsreaders in this country. It will be a very sad day when he actually retires.
I’m sure Peter Hitchener will continue to read Melbourne’s 6pm bulletin until he retires. When that eventually happens, I think we should be able to trust Nine to replace him with the most appropriate person for the job.
While I’ve only really seen him via online streaming or clips on YouTube, I do think that Hitch is the best newsreader in Melbourne and definitely one of the best TV newsreaders in this country.
Nine now having the newsroom in his name probably says quite a lot about how popular and trusted Peter Hitchener is amongst Melbournians and Victorians.
a fitting tribute for a legend, and as tweeted today, Nine News Melbourne has only ever been anchored by Sir Eric Pearce, Brian Naylor and Peter Hitchener.
