I’m sure I heard someone say that Peter was Karl’s older brother before, but if Pete is indeed the younger one I stand corrected!
Karl is 43 and Pete is 36.
Corey Norris presented sport and Madeline Slattery presented the weather in Melbourne again this weekend.
What I personally think Nine (and/or Seven) needs to work on in 2018 for the Sydney market: Getting strong lead presenters for all three segments - news, sport and weather!
It goes without saying that Deborah Knight is more than capable of presenting Sydney’s news on Friday/Saturday nights and being the main fill-in for Peter Overton.
What I’m not so sure about is the possibility of either Mark Burrows or Allison Langdon becoming the new 3rd in-line 6pm newsreader for Sydney.
That’s presuming that we even still have a Nine News Sydney in 20 years time (what with the ever changing media landscape, etc.) of course!
In any case, the next news & sports presenters for Nine News Sydney will most likely be people who aren’t even on our radars at this point in time. But for as long as the ratings remain strong and the circumstances fall in Nine’s favour, I’d definitely expect both Pete & Cam to continue in their current positions for the next 15-20 years or so.
Madeline Slattery is better than Justine Conway.
Allison yes, Mark no.
Peter Overton, Cameron Williams & Amber Sherlock + Deborah Knight, Erin Molan & Belinda Russell is a pretty strong (and consistent) team IMO. Even when Erin goes on maternity leave in a few months, I wouldn’t mind seeing someone like Julie Snook or even James Bracey replace her.
9 News Adelaide presenter Kate Collins gave birth to a baby boy today.

Full team back on deck in Melbourne tonight?
Clint Stanaway is presenting sport as Tony Jones is still on holidays.
Does Petes contract up for renewal this year? Hope he keeps going.
Looking online l found a Herald Sun article from 2014 saying he had signed a rumoured 5 year contract… if that is accurate information 2019 (Hitch will be 73)would be the time for a new contract.
I personally think as long his health permits he will continue as he loves his job.
2018 is Peter Hitchener’s 20th consecutive year as lead newsreader for Nine Melbourne’s 6pm news bulletin! If he stays on until the end of 2019, he’ll become Australia’s longest running TV newsreader of all time (in at least the number of years he’s been on screen for anyway).
I’m sure Nine and most Melbourne viewers would also like Peter Hitchener to continue reading the news for as long as he feels up to it!
He seems to have more energy than ever, doing many community events too. I see no reason he would retire!
Hopefully the longer he stays, the longer the momentum for his replacement will shift from Tony Jones to Alicia.
Just as long as it’s not Neil Breen.
