I struggle to know why they don’t.
When a mock is better than the real thing…
Nine must’ve gutted the facilities in their Darwin office, repurposing or selling off equipment which would now be useful.
They moved office recently. The equipment previously used is just sitting in storage I think.
Updates are pre-recorded anyway. No reason on why they can’t implement custom .mogrt premiere pro graphic templates like my mock above.
Maybe you should get in contact with them, offer your services. It’d look ten times better.
Looks like they may have saw our post. It still fades on and off as a image and using the incorrect font. It’s still entertaining that a network has to replicate their own graphics.
If they can give the supers to SCA to make the Nine Tasmania updates what’s the issue with Darwin?
From what I hear, the Darwin updates are being put together by the local Darwin crew, whom are using basic editing software. No VIZ or After Effects available.
Using the graphic template, which all the regional newsrooms would have some sort of access too, isn’t exactly replicating.
Fair enough to use whatever editing software it takes for the updates to go to air (at least it’s better than nothing), but does one need either VizRT or After Effects for the correct font to be implemented?
Just going to jump in here
The font is available for download off Google Fonts or anywhere that literally has fonts including Adobe themselves. Nine probably have it on file. They install it onto the computers which will be shown across programs. In regards to software, Nine has access to all Adobe Creative Cloud including After Effects programs and using Premiere Pro to edit content?
The graphic template being used in the Darwin updates have been made by the team themselves, which is what I mean by replicating the graphic used in all their metro bulletins. Nine have failed to provide direct AE (mogrt) templates of their graphics to Darwin for their updates obviously.
It doesn’t not require AE or VIZ to use these graphics. You can migrate AE (mogrts) templates into Premiere Pro which has been seen in the past with online clips on YouTube with the “subscribe to our channel” etc on the Nine News Australia channel. Here is an example using the mocks;
All that Nine graphics team need to do is migrate their graphics into AE (probably is already), export it as a template then distribute the files so editors can load them into Premiere Pro.
Too bad Darwin’s bulletin couldn’t be done live out of NBN’s control room, with Darwin’s studio cameras fed back to Newcastle. I am assuming that NBN only does a 6 PM newscast, so having the Darwin bulletin done at 7:30 PM Newcastle time would have worked.
It seems the folks in Darwin don’t care that much. The backdrop is even crooked.
That font’s worse (I don’t recall seeing it since 7 way back when they were playing with “Australian Television Network” branding); at least Darwin’s using a Helvetica typeface, which looks similar to NEWS under the Nine logo.
Good lord that is shocking.
And yet I don’t see much of a problem - it is still very readable.
Darwin’s bulletin could be done live out of the regional studio in Brisbane since there’s no other regional bulletins going to air. Run things as normal just with only one bulletin. Even a local only Gold Coast-style opt out at 5:30 would be something.
Unfortunately, evidence points to Nine having zero interest.
Most people looking at the Nine News reports on the television and those regional news reports on Facebook wouldn’t notice that there was a different font.
