Lol, to be fair, even the 10 play site has a tile image for the ET page featuring Nancy O’Dell still.
Never seen these tiles because I rarely record using Fetch, hence my surprise!!
Looks like 1 hour late news on a Sunday is a thing -confirmed for next week as well.
Doesn’t look half bad with the logo on the right.
Really very effective and smart promotion
The Perth set floor (where the weather is being presented) looks really dirty!
It probably is. Back in the day, everything used to be covered by custom cloths and floors were polished… not so much now
It’s not. It just has a matte finish on the floor slightly different to Sydney’s.
However the ring surrounding the platform where the desk sits is badly damaged by high heels in Perth.
Impressed by the variety of reports being covered in this late bulletin from places other than the main east coast centres. You don’t get this diversity in a national bulletin produced in Sydney.
Also, a NSW regional news presenter mini reunion with Mike Lorrigan reporting from South Australia immediately following a cross to Vanessa O’Hanlon at Sydney Airport.
Don’t mind Michael Thompson’s presentation. Don’t know why so many Perth viewers are welded on to Seven News. Thomo doesn’t have that smarmy used car salesman aura about him Rick Arden has.
Tonight, the Late News had various starting times, thanks to the various “Footy Shows” in each city. With that, the news aired at: 11.10pm in Sydney and Brisbane, at 11.40pm in Melbourne, and 10.10pm in Adelaide and Perth…
Does this mean that Adelaide got the news first due to the time difference, with other cities getting it delayed? Because in Sydney, there were various “Live reports” on screen?
No doubt there is some local bias going on with Perth stories probably over indexing. What other locations are featuring?
That is the effect of years of mismanagement by Nine Perth until Nine Entertainment swooped.
I disagree (as someone who used to live in Perth and who has seen Rick present for many years). Rick might not be Peter Overton or Michael Usher level of excellent but from a personal perspective he is quite relatable and authoritative. Michael Thomson comes across as a presenter better left on sport.
I guess it’s all about perception. I’ve only seen him present sport a couple of times but, to me, he does have that air of authority and trust about him needed for the role. He comes across as a relatable, knockabout “everyman” because his appearance isn’t picture perfect and he doesn’t have that forced newsreader tone (think Peter Mitchell or even Overton at times) many adopt to add impact to presentation.
Rick Ardon comes across as overly slick and polished. I guess if he’d been a fixture in my living room for decades I’d be more accustomed to his style. He just does’t seem to have the sincerity Thomson has and seems to have come “straight from central casting”.
I don’t think this has been mentioned, but the Late News bulletins are available on 9Now.
I agree that he does come across as a nice person who is trustworthy and genuine. It’s just that I feel his presentation style is still very sport presenter like (quite shouty and excitable rather than the voice of authority which is needed for news), which is somewhat understandable considering he presented sports for so many years and has become accustomed to that style of presentation. He’s perfectly fine as a fill-in newsreader like Stephen Quartermain.
I’ve been watching a little bit of the late news recently and can’t help but feel that Peter Overton’s presentation style seems to have become a little bit unnatural compared to before (almost a bit more dramatic sounding). Georgie Gardner who presented the night before did a much better job IMO and came across as much more authoritative without sounding dramatic.
Perhaps Michael Thomson has been reading this forum. His presentation, apart from his constant movements, was quite polished tonight and felt more like a proper newsreader.
