Well done to Nine. A great outcome for the local community. Proof that local news investment always wins. Others who think they can save money by cutting investment should watch closely. If Nine can pull it off in Darwin, you just have to scratch your head at another networks semi-national thought bubble.
Nine will be centralising the News in Brisbane. Just like 10
Also there is no commercial competition in Darwin.
Apples and oranges. You’re comparing an interstate bulletin being presented in another state but it’s still a separate live product, versus pre-recorded inserts and a merged live middle section.
Indeed apples and oranges. There is no 9 news bulletin be it QLD, Sydney or Melbourne that would be able to be customized for the Darwin market. With the amount of live local and hyper local news sport and weather plus live skyline backdrops that 9 has on its news. There is no way it’s possible to make it work for Darwin.
10 on the other hand had bulletins with minimal localization
Also, 9 is a news network. 10 is not.
So yes, apples and oranges
My money’s on Darwin getting the current local news backdrop. But it would be nice to see the same backdrop from the local updates.
I’d be surprised if the Darwin skycam is still up there. If it is, I wonder if it would be possible to set up a live video link from the Darwin skycam to Brisbane?
It was recently pulled down this year but Nine can access any of their skycams across the country.
In regards to the current backdrop, it looks like this (taken from the election bulletin)
Very Darwin for them to mention the importance for Croc stories on the news
Promos are starting to be rolled out.
10-second version airing heading back into programs
New cover photo
Great to see the investment.
Local news team in and around Darwin right now.
Looks like Paul Murphy will present sport.
The station has new vehicles as-well.
It’s great to see both Paul’s back with work inside the network.
Hopefully they use a live backdrop for the bulletin.
A ton of money is obviously being thrown into this so I’m assuming the production standards will be higher than Nine News Local.
Certainly sounds like Nine has realised that abandoning their dedicated bulletin was a stupid idea.
Do we still believe it’s going to be presented out of Brisbane?
NT News said it will be presented from QLD;
I would say Paul will be frequently visiting NT regardless. There will probably be times every year where they will have presenters on-location in Darwin or something.
New promos are out!
Really trying to push the agenda that it is produced/presented locally even though it’s not. Paul has spent this week in Darwin visiting any community spots and filming promos.
Editorial decisions are being made in Brisbane now, not Darwin? Or is it just presentation?
Yeah there seems to be some confusion about the definition of produced by some on the board.
