I’m guessing because the Nine News Local weather for Queensland is pre-record they’ll have time to shuffle Samantha out and Paul in for Darwin.
There is a 30 minute gap between the end of NNL and the start of Darwin
I’m extremely very excited to learn that Darwin will finally get the 1 hour news bulletin back. I hope it is based in Darwin and not in Brisbane.
I reckon they should’ve put Sam for weeknights (after doing RQLD) and Paul for weekends. That would allow Nine to have a local bulletin seven days a week.
Great news. About time those resources were put to good use.
Who hosted the weekend Darwin news before it shifted to Brisbane? Ive seen some older videos where they took the Sydney news with a local sport/weather opt out on weekends, maybe they could do this again, but with the QTQ bulletin with Jono?
Amy Culpitt previously presented Nine News Darwin on weekends. She is now at ABC.
Paul Taylor has been appointed to the Darwin market as weekday presenter.
There has been no weekend bulletin announced yet. I don’t see why they can’t do opt-outs like they currently do on weekdays though?
Positive feedback on the post on their page.
I am aware of that
Good to see Darwin news return anyway.
Ah sorry I read your post wrong!
I think Paul is a more likable presenter in Darwin than Sam.
Nine is only (at least partially) reversing a decision which never should’ve happened, so don’t expect any praise from me about the reinstatement of a full Darwin bulletin.
…it probably be treated fairly similar to the news operations of NBN or Seven Queensland. Adequate enough, but still lacking full metro-like investment when it comes to things like the news set.
Presented from Darwin or Brisbane, it will be much better than the previous Regional QLD/NT product as it’s a dedicated bulletin.
The local staff up in Darwin have been pushing for this for years and the opportunity have come to finally do something about it…
When Darwin got the weekend 1 hour news, Jono used to read news on a Sunday as far as I could recall, and most probably the fill in sport reader or one of the staff in Darwin read the news on a Saturday, that’s as far as I could remember. I left Darwin in 2013 so I don’t know about the period from late 2013 to 2017
I’m suspecting we will see some additional reporters appointed soon.
Darwin didn’t replace Melissa Mackay since she departed to ABC so they’ve only had 4 reporters. They’ve been working on a roster where there is only 3 reporters working at once since March.
I wonder if this bulletin was launched due to funding from the regional news grant? Darwin and Newcastle got a slice of that.
Are we also expecting a weekend edition?
This is much more of a guarantee than that alleged 10 news Darwin bulletin that was meant to be launching.
I’ve been saying this for years. Would be amazing if they actually owned Canberra and would invest in producing a proper capital city bulletin for the national capital.
They can’t be losing money then if they can afford to produce a local bulletin for such a small market that is Darwin. Makes the prior integration with the SCA bulletin look like a quick cash grab.
Tonight’s story
I was hoping that they would give Charles Croucher the gig. Explains why Paul survived the regional redundancies recently, though.
Great news for Darwin, BTW.
