Guessing there’ll be a few more expensive, management-types who can’t be "moved across” though.

Interesting media reporting today also said “sport” (Wide World of Sports?) Wonder if some significant team heads and EPs could be at risk, Nine do cover many sports now, quite a few major codes too.

While Brisbane has experienced a handful of high-profile departures, Nine’s Sydney newsroom is understood to have been the hardest hit by the restructuring process.

The network’s Wide World of Sports division has also experienced job losses. The cuts come at a sensitive time for Nine, which is both the Olympic Network and is currently competing hard to renew its NRL broadcast rights deal.

In contrast, Nine’s Melbourne newsroom has so far been largely untouched by the cuts, while teams working on The Today Show have also avoided major structural change.

Melbourne may not be affected due to staff already leaving by choice (to Seven etc) and Nine not opting to replace their positions.

A question/thought on the desire by Nine to “remove duplication of effort”

Are the supers (eg Mark Burrows reporting or Anthony Albanese Prime Minister) overlaid by each local bulletin or are they done centrally?

According to the latest episode of Media McKnight, Nine Melbourne’s senior communications manager Terry Stuart has been made redundant.

I would say the report would be loaded into the system with metadata for the supers and their timestamps. It would allow for the report to be edited if necessary and the Super generated by the system as its played back.

they’re done live by the playout system, timed to match the point in the story, which is where errors can come in if someone gets a number wrong.

Or the person who has been supered with the wrong name :joy:

yeah that would be a timing thing, someone has put the time for the wrong super in

There was a very Melbourne story that aired on the Sydney bulletin tonight (Everything Electric Melbourne ). Is this a sign of things to come with these cutbacks?

I think they have already been airing more interstate reports than they used to in the last year or so anyway.

In years gone by, it would be repackaged into a trimmed down item often with just a voice-over, now they often air the original interstate report.

Uncertain if this has been mentioned, but how long has the Gold Coast had a live backdrop inserted into their chromakey?

It popped up in my Facebook feed and I had to double-take that the clouds were actually moving. It’s nice to see!

What is that mic?? A bit tacky.

The mic flag?

The gold one in the graphic? What’s wrong with it? It’s an old radio mic. And Laws famously had a gold microphone when he was broadcasting.
