Nine News Content and Appearance

Not sure if I’ve missed it, but do we know if Perth and Adelaide will keep the afternoon news at 5pm in 2024?

Would be smart to keep it at 5pm, especially in Perth where it seems to be rating well and helping 6pm ratings too.

I don’t think anything has been said about the 5pm news. They tend to do quite well at 5pm with them away from 7 News.

Off topic, but surely Nine won’t run both the UK and AU version of ‘Tipping Point’ point back to back at 3 then 4 in ADL/PER?

Nine News at five was local in Adelaide again today

Looked like it was from a different studio also.

Completely random thought about the dual anchors in Melbourne, but they may in fact finally update the live shot to a longer shot because its current 4:3 framing won’t work with dual anchors.

After reading through the ratings threads, I never realised that the gap between 9 News Adelaide and 7 News Adelaide had almost doubled. Previously the gap had narrowed quite a bit. I find 9 News just as good, the set is much nicer. Yes, they have a large turnover of reporters at 9 Adelaide but it is still a good bulletin.

I think this is a major part of it. You have 7 with literal local legends, and you have 9 with young interstaters who don’t have a local accent. 9 is more schmick in the presentation, but their stories are always over sensationalised, and drag on a bit.

Are some Adelaide “feature stories” (as I like to call them) as bad or equal on par as what’s featured in Brisbane?

Don’t think so.

I noticed that the analogue River 94.9 FM audio simulcast of Nine News Queensland is ahead of the digital TV broadcast. I thought they would have just got the feed of air, but must have a dedicated line to the studio.

I noticed that about a year ago and thought exactly the same thing. It can only be as you say, a dedicated link. No idea why they would bother considering they have good TV reception from their Ipswich studio. 96.5 when they were simulcasting for many years always just took the feed off air from Seven’s digital TV link (well before analogue shut off).

Do we know why this ended? Used to be useful when you were out and about, or driving home late from work.

Their promos aired for it and River94.9’s website mention that it is a ‘simulcast’:

Well yeah it is

Noticed watching the Adelaide News last night, that going to breaks they just have 1 anchor on screen, not both. I wonder if they’re trying to fool the viewers into thinking it’s just the next intro.
Only time you see Kate and Brenton together is at the start, throwing to sport and at the end.

While it is a simulcast, what I was pointing out is, because of the difference between analogue FM broadcast and the digital processing lag of DTV, the news makes it to air on FM before the TV broadcast, so they are not truly in synch. And that can only happen if they are using a direct link to the studio rather than off air.

What about for the weather preview and report? If so, that makes for 5 times they appear together, which is probably enough?

Do they share any report intros eg. Brenton reads the first few lines, Kate the last?

Nup just one of them throws to the weather, and to finance.

How bizarre. I remember when the Adelaide product was a decent bulletin. Seems it’s just a mess now. Still don’t understand why they cut the voice over down to just “This is Adelaide’s Nine News” not even on super to tell the viewer who the anchors are.
