Thanks - I’ll record and post it here.

Nine the only network carrying any weather warnings this afternoon. Not sure how useful they are, but it’s better than nothing.

Seen twice in the last hour with different messages and regions.

A thunderstorm warning sponsored by Energex?
There have been no new warnings since 4.30 but 9 have already played the warning with the Energex sponsorship twice in 15 mins during Muriel’s Wedding.
Update: they’re still playing them at 10.45pm.

There is a broad warning for torrential rain and flooding.

Energex sponsor it presumably because as a measure to remind people to stay away from fallen powerlines after storms.

My point is that the warning isn’t new. It’s already been reported in their 5pm and 6pm bulletins. Scrolling across the screen is just sensationalist… and looks like (and no doubt is) an ad with the Energex logo.

And so important that they’re still running it during the 11pm movie, yet the Qld floods were not even mentioned on the Late News.

But then again, is it catering to people who might not have seen the 5/6pm bulletins? It’s probably better that they air the warning than not.

Anyone living in Brisbane would be pretty stupid to not realise there is a weather warning. It’s been pouring since Friday. If they’re “out and about” and missed it on tv, they would’ve seen it first hand on the streets.

Then why have weather warnings ever lol.

Could just replace it with a graphic saying “look out the window, champ”.

Agree, weather warnings should only be used when there is to be a deterioration in the weather, not when its already raining and is just going to keep raining. If it’s likely to cause to flooding, then a Flood warning should be issued.

It should be new, current, emerging information, not up to 7 hours old.

Yes. But your point in your last point was they would have to be “stupid” not to realise there was a weather warning. Not the timeliness of the information. That doesn’t help people that think it’s just a bit of rain.

Maybe they were requested by local authorities to keep pushing the storm warning message?

It’s wrong on all levels- timeliness, stating the obvious 7 hours after it was initially broadcast, sensationalist and blatant advertising.
Agree to disagree.
By the way, it’s thundering this morning here in Brisbane and a new warning issued just before 5am. Hope they’ve had it scrolling this morning on 9.

Wouldn’t it have been on all networks then?

It seems only Nine were doing this.

Hey look it’s an interesting debate @Radiohead @spw68… I know a lot of the severe weather warnings I’ve come across in my work have a line at the bottom saying a message like “it would be appreciated if radio and TV networks broadcast this message regularly”. I guess no one is going to be hurt by an extra/delayed weather warning in this case.

Interesting that the Brisbane Lord Mayor just said at the Qld press conference, this is an evolving event and “information that is an hour old is out of date.”
