Nine News Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

Great shot!
Only wish they’d add more backdrop to the screen and reduce the size of that big white area.

That would be good for wide shots. But most of the wide shots have a story background/breaking background. The cityscape backdrop is only used in the close up shots, so that’s really all they need. It’s really only seen in full at the very start and very end for a few seconds.
But I do agree that there is too much white.

Say this set in Adelaide. Anyone have an idea how much something like that would cost?

200? 300?

If anyone is interested, I found an opener of the local Queensland Morning News from 2015 in my files:

It includes a promo at the end about the simulcast of their 6pm News on radio.

Wow, I miss that old studio design with the curved light piece over the top

I have heard of news sets costing over $ 1 million in the past, so seven figures would not surprise me.

No way. I know for a fact that the Access Hollywood set in LA about 5 years ago cost about $700k, and it was about 4 times the size of an aussies news set. Two stories high multiple giant video walls and incredible design. By world standards our sets a really smalll and simple. No way that ADL set could cost $1m

What News sets cost $1m? In Australia?

Apparently, the current Seven News Melbourne set cost somewhere around $800k so I wouldn’t be overly surprised if the Perth & Sydney Nine News sets (compared to the Melbourne/Adelaide versions which only had one side videowall, while QTQ ended up with no side videowalls) were over the seven figure mark!

I am really surprised

I think a large part of that is the technology behind the scenes to power the video walk etc. Not the actual set design. I guess it goes al together - but often with new sets come needed upgrades in lighting cabling technology and control. The 7 Melbourne news set is a desk and video wall. Awkward shape and set up. No design really. So the money all went on technology. There is not much else to that set

I believe 10’s Sydney Set was rather steep in cost, in saying this, I believe some structural changes were needed to the actual building to accommodate a set of this size.

I’d think this too.

The Sydney set us also a shared cost between many shows.

I can see 10’s set costing a lot. There is a lot of unique design. Set up and staging there. It’s also multi functional and supports 4 hours of content a day though. So it’s costa are spread across the schedule.
