Gold Coast News was without its usual super for much of the bulletin tonight (not for the first time).
It did appear later during sport which made everyone very happy!

And looks all the better without it! So much cleaner.
Yep.
That super is disgusting.
Iâll be recording this one!
A great streak for the Sydney team. But, they canât rest on their laurels. Nor can Wick, who has a lot of work to do- with ACA the only bulletin performing consistly and rating well in his department.
Yes, congratulations to 9 Sydney. But how long can they hold on for???
Seven is overtaking Nine in every other city.
Sadly, itâs arguable that Nine News Sydney have been doing just that in recent times.
Where is our major promotional campaign (still using Promo Endtags produced 2.5-3 years ago - at least update those!)? Where is our meteorologist?
âŚor Simon Hobbs, who probably has more of a say into what Nine News Sydney puts to air on a daily basis than Darren Wick does.
Probably until after the NRL season has finished for the year in October, when Nine wonât be able to rely on Sunday nights (and to some extent, Thursday/Friday) to prop up their week.
I think most people wouldnât care whether the weather presenter had a meteorological degree or not. The qualification to be the weather presenter on Sunrise appears to be amateur stuntman.
Itâs sad that this is true.
Weather reports presented by real meteorologists are so much better than when theyâre presented by others!
I think people want very different weather presenters on breakfast TV to the type they want presenting their forecast during the local evening bulletins though.
Agreed.
I can understand why itâs not always possible for regional stations to have meteorologists but it really should be an essential for all networks in the top markets such as Sydney & Melbourne, I think.
No qualification required to be the weather presenter on Tenâs Sydney news. Just a daily leave pass from Callan Park Hospital for the Insane.
It might be a ânice to haveâ and something to look good in news promos, but I donât think itâs an essential. I donât think not being a meteorologist has impacted Livinia Nixonâs ability to present the weather at the end of the news.
why? they appear on screen for no more than 5 minutes a bulletin and itâs basically to rattle off a list of numbers
True but I think it is a credibility issue. Experience is a factor that is heavily promoted in news promos.
But, I agree that having a meteorologist is no longer (shouldnât be) the leading concern for 9 anymore and is certainly not the reason why they are struggling in the metros.
Doesnât seem to matter much in the credibility stakes that Peter Hitchener isnât a journalist.
And with that, any talk of needing a meteorologist is shut down.
Excellent example.
I agree a meteorologist isnât essential but the presenter needs to demonstrate a deeper understanding of weather and climate and be able to communicate and explain the science behind the data.
Clive Robertsonâs weather segments were always enlightening and educational. Mike Bailey was a news presenter before he fell into the role when Alan Wilkie left Seven for Nine in the 1970s. He clearly had a passion for what he presented. I always thought it was a pity Nine let him go after his brief stint there in 2009.
How many networks are adding to the standard BOM data?
Given the amount of time given to weather segments its not really worth it
