@TV-QLD probably just means Remote SA/NT covered by Imparja that has AEST sourced programming.
I was talking about Channel 9. I thought Adelaide timeshifted.
Mustâve just been Darwin
Unusual ending for NN Brisbane with a promo for the next nightâs bulletin between end of weather and sign off.
The VO from that promo is so cringey and insensitive:
Vision of a Nine camera operator being attacked outside Supreme Court today but was it exclusive to Nine News?
Exclusively attacked⌠dur.
It was exclusively their camera?
I think that Nine should seriously consider bringing back Nightline to take on Sevenâs âThe Latestâ.
Should it be national, then Peter Overton would present it, but if they decide to go local, these are the teams I would have:
Nightline Queensland presented by Jonathan Uptin or Emmy Kubainski (Mondays-Wednesdays)
Nightline Sydney presented by Peter Overton (Mondays-Wednesdays)
Nightline Melbourne presented by Brett McLeod (Mondays-Thursdays)
Nightline Adelaide presented by Will McDonald (Mondays-Wednesdays) and Alice Monfries (Thursdays, when she returns from Sydney).
Nightline Perth presented by Tracy Vo (Mondays-Thursdays).
Nightline would not air on Fridays and will not air on Thursdays in Sydney or Brisbane during the NRL season.
Ex-Nine News Perth presenter Emmy Kubainski has returned to Brisbane and I think she is gettable by QTQ.
Giving Nightline a comeback requires millions of dollars to spend. You need overnight resources to sustain broadcast. One more thing: localising Nightline would be nice, but that could put Nineâs budget to debt. If Seven keeps The Latest up in the ratings, Nine should think of another option on late nights.
RUMOUR HAS IT that after the Aus Open in January Nine were considering a relaunch Nightline with Sylvia Jeffreys. Unfortunately this did obviously not happen.
Well they do have time to develop something relating to late night news⌠Nine will want to keep the competition with Seven. Plus i think Sylvia isnât all about ACA I feel like theyâll have more projects in the bag for her⌠since sheâs just resigned for 4 more years.
Nine already produces 7 bulletins (including Today and ACA) on a weekday, compared to Sevenâs 6; I canât see it happening. I also donât think Sylvia would have gotten the gig and go against Musher, if this did eventuate. It might have been workshopped to stop her resigning but I doubt it was promised.
Emmy wont be returning to 9. Not after the way they got rid of her in Perth.
Donât blame her, would be a shame if she didnât return to journalism in some capacity - a real talent there.
With Nine News Sydney again loosing to Seven News Sydney across the entire hour last night (a previously rare occurance that is starting to become common), itâs time to start discussing what they can do to fend off the competition.
Now there are a few things I think need to be looked at, but for now Iâm only going to focus on one: How the bulletin is presented around the mid-way point. At the moment, Sport/Weather previews are scattered all over the place while the Headline Recap is currently shown during that awkward post-Sport/pre-Weather block up to the one which starts closest to 6.30pm.
Since many viewers (especially in Sydney with our suburban sprawl and chronic congestion on the road & public transport network) likely arenât home in time to catch the first half, I would probably move the Headline Recap up to the block of the bulletin which is closest to 6.30pm with a mega âAhead tonight > Sport > Weather > ACA at 7pmâ teaser leading into the ad break before that, so viewers have a clearer idea of exactly what is coming up as the bulletin goes into the 2nd half hour:
Imagine standing presentation for the newsreaderâs bits + âAhead inâŚâ graphics focused around a clock and you get the general idea of how this segment would work. The ACA preview would most likely be pre-recorded, probably also the Sport/Weather previews for this segment too.
Sport would be moved back to itâs rightful place - the penultimate/pre-Weather segment. Meanwhile after (or perhaps even during) the 6.30pm headline recap, Iâd think about playing shorter, punchier versions of the first few stories so those viewers who 've just arrived home and flicked on the TV for the 2nd half of the bulletin donât feel like theyâre missing out on anything important.
Why not just replace the entire bulletin with this new show?
Haha.
I might enjoy Daltsâ reports but wouldnât quite go that far, although I do think âMike Daltonâs Sydneyâ would be a great brand for his reports or even a Sydney Weekender-type show (if Nine were to ever have one)!
Nine News Sydney, (South East) Queensland and Gold Coast getting into the spirit of Origin Decider Week on social media:
But of course, thereâs still one question that comes to mind: Is Mike âMr Sydneyâ Dalton (If thereâs one person in the entire media whoâs passionate for the Blues, surely itâs this guy?) again covering the lead-up to Origin 3 for Nine News with a naturally sky blue-eyed angle?
