I know what some interstate correspondents might be thinking at this point: “Isn’t there this reporter who you’re obsessed with that does all the quirky colour reports on Nine News Sydney? He seems like someone who’d probably be quite passionate about NSW in State of Origin!”
I didn’t realise this but Melbourne currently uses a different cut of the current “Cool Hand Luke” theme music for both the opener and closer than what Sydney does.
I prefer the Melbourne version, it sounds a bit more dramatic, Sydney’s just sounds a bit bland.
The music for the ad break throw is the same on both.
Melbourne, Perth & Adelaide all used to use different variants but changed with automation… Melbourne is the only market left that uses a different part of theme.
The “opening drums” (not sure what else to call it) in Melbourne’s opener used to be the standard across all bulletins. Here’s an example from Sydney 2008. Once Sydney ditched the opening drums, the other bulletins followed suit leaving only Melbourne today. Adelaide used the opening drums until around 2014-15?
Meantime, the Queensland bulletin is the only one that doesn’t use the “dramatic ending” theme when the presenter is introduced, rather, a replay of the opening part (if you know what I mean).
It has also introduced a Matthew O’Sullivan voiceover for Jonathan Uptin, but not for Andrew/Melissa (there was one in 2012, before they switched to the Peter Harvey-voiced “This is Nine News Queensland”).
That’s the 3rd Saturday in a row that the Sydney bulletin has had some sort of technical difficulties. Not that it’s anything major but still, why always on Saturdays?
