Nine News Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

I think it looks better but obviously not stunning. Remember, they can’t do a complete overhaul because they don’t have another studio to present from in the interim- I believe they have deconstructed that old set.

They could do something on location for a few days.

Perhaps very slightly better than the look they had before, but still not great.

IMO, the red lighting would be better if it was sky blue to compliment the dark blue backdrop. And of course, they still need to get a screen or something so a proper liveshot of the Gold Coast (as it’s been said before, the GC is one of those markets where you need to have a live backdrop) can be incorporated.

I don’t mind it, but these afternoon updates never do the set any justice.

This throw to the weather shows a side shot of the new set, it’s definitely better than before IMO.

I wouldn’t have painted the desk- leave it grey so it stands out. But anyway, hopefully a plasma behind the desk is the next upgrade.

Good to see them trying something new. I just wonder why that shot is so tight. Is it because the set is so small or is it to hide Bruce’s boardies?

The set is awful and should be banned from television

The blue paint made it look 100 times worse… nothing matches.

That’s one hell of an improvement. Still a very average set though.

Yes, it makes the set look smaller than what it is and extremely tacky

I’m gonna assume that there are still more changes to come…

It wouldn’t be hard to replicate the screen platform from the metro sets. Clad the current “spine” (now painted blue) in black acrylic and add the white horizontal strip lights.

The blue walls works with the red accent lights and the shiny new floor, but plain blue still looks very much a work in progress.

Localised (and updated, to include some footage from Saturday/Sunday) versions of this promo are now on-air.

Still waiting for a decent, standalone promotional campaign for Nine News Sydney though. When would the last one have been, the “Chatting Up Peter Overton” series early last year?

The Gold Coast set went from mood-fitting and unique to gaudy and hyperstereotype newsy. Which is a bad thing, just to be clear.

Gold Coast went all out tonight with 3 standing reports, 3 exclusive reports, sport live from Suns training as well as OB weather.

The dark blue actually makes the set look slightly larger.

I think I’m in the minority, but I prefer the set when it was brighter. Too dark, and too blue now. Doesn’t feel like the Gold Coast any more.

Completely agree with you, they should just build a new set rather than making these random modifications. If they paint anymore blue it basically is a chroma key set…

I don’t mind it too much as I feel the set aligns more with Nine News’ brand colours more.

Agree, but maybe because the lighting isn’t as strong as it in the capital city studios or maybe because it’s a darker shade of blue, the revised GC set now looks oppressively dark.
