Nine News Content and Appearance (2015-Sept 2020)

God let’s hope not.

If Nine News Sydney was to adopt a Gold Coast-style set (especially with a Gold Coast-style desk!), I think that Seven News Sydney would get an unusually sudden increase to their ratings!

Not to mention the titlecard graphics…

Still the worst looking news set in the country, even a green screen is a better look. If this is what 9’s new director of regional news was responsible for, I feel sorry for those viewers who are about to get uglier sets from SC9.

I’m sure Nine will be very cautious about the sets they role out considering their audience have been used to the same set for 7 years.

Knowing Nine News…especially Nine News Sydney*, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if they’re upfront to their viewers about any possible changes to On-Air Presentation and do something like a full news report on “relaunch night” about how the new set and graphics will revolutionise (even though I’d expect them to mostly stick to a very traditional method of presentation) the way we watch TV news, etc.

*Afterall, we are talking about the same news service which has been known to give On-Air farewells to their longtime floor managers and helicopter pilots!

That Gold Coast set looks terrible. Looks like they got the desk from Ikea and put it together in 15 minutes.

It does look a bit cheap, doesn’t it?

I think the worst aspect of it is the glass top that has an overhang on the front of the desk.

I keep thinking “oh, I hope Bruce doesn’t knock that over…”.
It doesn’t look very safe there and looks badly misaligned with the desk itself.

from Kate Limon, new news director of Nine Darwin:

Something a little different for @9NewsDarwin@elizabethcreasy presenting 6pm bulletin live from the newsroom :movie_camera::tv:

Wendy said on Twitter she was at the Gold Coast show (not sure if she did a live cross or not)?
As the Gold Coast :sunglasses: is the latest new studio for Nine it will no doubt for the basis of all new sets around the country…
The only possible state that would receive a similar set would be QTQ. Nine aren’t stupid, that set is too beachy for Sydney’s or Melbourne bulletin.

I wonder whether the full bulletin was presented from the newsroom or if that was just a live cross?

I’m pretty sure that Elizabeth Creasy (who I still remember from her days reporting in Taree - Elisabeth was a great reporter back then so I’d imagine that she’s probably one of the best currently at Nine News Darwin) has been known to do presenting and reporting for Nine News Darwin, but don’t quote me on that one…

I agree. And I think that a Gold Coast-style set would look awful even on Nine News Queensland.

They have a 3 hour election coverage program tonight, so maybe using their main studio for that.

A post was merged into an existing topic: State/Territory Election Coverage 2016

So they’ve covered their set up with black curtains? Looks terrible.

Did a quick search on Kate Limon’s appointment to the head of news in Darwin. She sounds like she is being some great ideas to the table:

The 9 News set in Brisbane needs updating desperately. No consistent colour theme and it generally looks very 90s at best.

So I assume your also talking about the Sydney and Melbourne sets too then? :stuck_out_tongue:

I guess so if they’re the same. I’m in Brisbane.

As much as I think that the current Nine News Sydney set is starting to date and that I’d love to see a new set in the not too distant future, the fact that it’s been in use over seven years with only minor tweaks over that time (in comparison to the Sydney news sets of Seven and Ten, which have had at least three major set changes and numerous tweaks during the same period) has to count for something, surely?

Personally, I’m definitely expecting Nine News to have an evolution rather than a revolution of it’s current branding when they change things next. Knowing the most recent attempt(s) at completely relaunching (2006-08 era, one I’m sure that Nine would like to forget ever happened!) the branding of Nine’s news service and indeed the whole network turned out, a evolution of the current branding would really be all for the best…

In my opinion it made the space look worse as when they did a wide shot you could see the top of the set and the lights on behind the curtains.

I think they should have just gone with the regular studio but with election branding.

She’s the weekend newsreader and main fill in presenter when Jonno is away.
