Chick flicks and trashy reality… definitely aiming for a particular demographic there.

Terrible night to debut Optus Stadium.

But eh, as Cynic reminded me, ODIs have been held on the Australian Open final night before.

I think Nine is holding back the likes of Underbelly Files: Chopper, The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon to February at the earliest.

Well, they’re not showing them in January…

They had to make it as late as possible in case the stadium wasnt ready…

It will be an interesting contest.

There is no contest.

Definition of contest an event in which people compete. Think there will be.

How is 2m vs 600k (at best) metro ratings, a contest?

Because blind freddie could tell you that’s what it’ll be

Something tells me Turdall might not be talking about the ratings, rather the game being played at the new Stadium - no?

If that’s the case @Turdall, I apologise.

But as many will know, I make no apology for having a pet hate for CA scheduling ODI’s during the Australian Open.

Makes it very difficult. BBL is different.

Exactly.

And why wouldn’t CA schedule against the aus open? They cant just roll over in defeat.

My pet hate is Tennis Australia scheduling the Australian Open during the ODI portion of the summer.

Fair enough.

But surely a bit tongue in cheek?

I mean it’s the biggest annual international event Australia has, always during the final 2 weeks of January.

A couple of ODI cricket games hardly come close.

Luckily we didn’t do well in the One Dayers, Poms are the best one day team, Smith decision which I saw was so wrong IMO

Yes.

Only since the late 1980s.

I will say, I will be intrigued to see how ratings hold up once Federer, Nadal and Djokovic retire. It’s been a special era and while there’ll always been players that come and go, that trio in particular has really captured the public imagination. 7 will be hoping 2 of those 3 make the decider again this year. Same goes when Serena retires, the women’s game is diabolically bad without her, as seen at this tournament.

It’s like saying the AFL should stop matches during the commonwealth games. Stupid.

Tbh all other codes should be banned during my dodgeball season. Has really hurt attendance.

It’s a good point, especially with Federer it seems.

Look at OzTam (2001-), the Men’s Finals that have got 2m+ have been:

•2001: It didn’t. But Wimbledon got 3m (on Nine)
•2005: 4m (record,won’t be beaten,Hewitt lost😢)
•2006: 2.8m (Federer win)
•2007: 2.4m (Federer win)
•2008: 2.5m (Djokovic win)
•2009: Day 9 > 2.3m (Federer v del Potro) / final > 2.2m (Nadal win)
•2010: 2.4m (Federer win)
•2012: 2.1m (record length 2am, Djokovic win)
•2013: 2.2m (Djokovic win)
•2017: 2.7m (Federer win)
