Plus two new reality shows and that’s it.
You don’t think they’re maybe saving their dollars so they can purchase the NRL outright for the next deal?
Probably a few others as well but I left RPA out because its second season is still running on Nine.
Also the renewed content generally rates well - may not be enough room to have all that and risk trying untested shows, etc.
That’s what I’m saying.
In a business sense they don’t really need new content because everything they have is doing well still so maybe they’re using the opportunity to save some money and go big on the NRL rights which I hope they do.
So the “pathetic” comment earlier has been overruled and you see from a business sense why there may not be a huge new slate of shows? Why fix what ain’t broke. There’s a few new in there… see what happens.
No? I still think the line up is pathetic. I’m saying I understand why they might have chosen to do this. Doesn’t mean I like it. I would like 9 to have the NRL so if this is the way then so be it.
Isn’t this also a NZ drama?
A Remarkable Place To Die is an original drama production for the 9Network, along with ZDF, Acorn and TVNZ.
Always important to remember that Upfronts are not always the full slate of content announcements, shows are often commissioned, announced and premiere within the year between Upfronts.
A shame that Nine didn’t have anything else to announce that hadn’t already been leaked, Château DIY Australia - really?
Though in saying that, to not have an announcement on a renewal for Human Error, or update on Blood on the Tracks: The Platform Killer announced at last years upfronts and delayed to next year is pretty poor.
Palming off two majorly delayed Kiwi dramas with some Australian connections as local content doesn’t really cut it.
Not a very exciting line up IMO, but should rate well for Nine given everyone laps up MAFS and The Block.
How about The Golden Bachelor??
What about it?
I know Nine’s release says it’s a original drama production for the network, but it’s really not
They use that same shtick with Stan for any series they mount internationally and call it an Original series, it doesn’t hold any weight anymore.
A Remarkable Place to Die was announced earlier this year in March, surely Nine wasn’t sitting on an announcement for this long?
But the important thing is that they are not Australian stories. They are Kiwi stories funded by Australia.
Our networks have less and less Australian programs.
Not entirely correct.
Madam was announced September last year as being commissioned for WBD & Fifth Season distributing the series, it has already played out in full on ThreeNow, and Nine are showing it next year.
They’ve just acquired the series cause it did well and has some recognisable faces for Aussie audiences - Griffiths, Cormack and Magasiva etc. but it’s a wholly NZ produced series which would now have some international appeal.
As for A Remarkable Place to Die, Nine could’ve easily put their hand up in March this year when the show was announced like every other broadcaster that was on board at that time - my guess is they’ve boarded the series later after seeing some of it.
The only tie in storyline wise is a secondment to Sydney, the rest (and the name comes from the Remarkables in NZ) is all filmed in NZ with what would be a largely local crew and actors.
Nine have just picked it up cause Gibney is front & middle of this and it’s a cheap way to acquire content, plus counts for some content quotas.
So did Nine announce new streams for Darwin and the rest of Northern NSW? I couldn’t find anything in this statement here.
No
OK then, thanks for that.
Wow. How underwhelming. Compare this chat with the 10 one a few weeks ago. Hopefully seven has some surprises in store.
